Khasai

Located near the mouth of the Great River, Khasai is the capital of the Sythssyan kingdom of Setsymar. Having existed since the height of the old Sythssyan Mage Empire, Khasai has grown into one of the largest and most prosperous cities in the Khassis Desert. Thanks to its place as the seat of power for the Sythssyan monarchy, as well as its connection to one of the oldest civilisations in Taeva, Khasai remains one of the great cities of Taeva.

Demographics

The Sythssya are the dominant race within Khasai. Among the cities population, the most common occupations are merchants, diplomats, scholars, and artisans.

Government

Khasai is directly ruled over by the currently reigning King/Queen. All taxes collected within the city are are used to maintain its infrastructure, with the remainder being stored in the treasury.

Defences

Khasai is surrounded by a stone wall, which can be staffed with lookouts during times of conflict, and is further strengthened by various enchantments. Additionally, the harbour is defended by coastal towers, and whatever ships are docked there.

Khasai trades extensively with the rest of Setsymer, through both the Great River and overland routes.

Infrastructure

Khasai has a number of libraries, markets, and workshops, and there's a well maintained network of stone roads running throughout the city. Additionally, there's a harbour connecting the city to the Great River, allowing travel along its length.

Thanks to its location along the Great River, Khasai has access to a large amount of arable farmland, as well as fishing and trade along the river. The city also has access to stone from the nearby quarry, and has a number of facilities dedicated to scholarly and artistic pursuits, as well as construction.

The buildings of Khasai are all constructed from stone, with flat roofs and wooden exterior doors. Additionally, many important buildings are constructed with tall walls, and the majority of buildings are designed to allow as much sunlight in during the day as possible.
