Vulzesh
Sitting at the mouth of the Gahrla River and northern border Nomnizia, Vulzesh is a critical city for commerce and defense. Highly populated, it rivals the countries capital for size and significance. Unfortunately because of it's position, it's highly susceptible to severe weather from storms and river flooding, making it undesirable for the focal point of such a proud nation.
Demographics
Nomnizia has never done a proper census on it's peoples, so exact numbers are hard to come by. Suffice to say, the city is largely occupied by humans, including a fair number of traders from Linthalia or other nearby countries. Orc traders from Stoneheart will often travel through the Gahrla river to do trade here; and some choose to take permanent roots. Like with most of Nomnizia, the city has an unusually high population of Halflings present.
Government
Vulzesh being both a port town and directly connected to the Gahrla River, a large portion of the revenue for the city, which fills the Nomniza general coffers, is on tarriffs and duties for goods entering and exiting the city. Goods from local merchants don't suffer the tariffs, but boatmen carrying goods marked as having from Stoneheart or the Purshand Empire, or if the boats themselves hail from these lands, than they subject. This inevitably breeds a group of smugglers, willing to find creative ways of avoiding the tarriffs, for a fee of course, in order to gain a competitive edge on the market streets.
Defences
Projecting power outward, Vulzesh has a decent naval presence, finding and combating pirates preying on merchant ships, as well as being watchful for potential invasion. On a slight hill near the mouth of the river is a barricade, where cannons are pointed facing the ocean, in case of a direct attack. A second fortification is established facing the other side of the river, in case of a ground force invasion. There's been no such attack, not in living memory, but the city is too valuale to leave it unprotected, particularly given it's neighbors on the other side.
Infrastructure
To combat the floods from high rains, large walls have been built on the northwest corridor of the city to barricade the river. The mouth of the river is unguarded, leaving boats and ships docked nearby, as well as the pier itself, vulnerable.
Guilds and Factions
There's a small guild hall for The Pathfinder Society here. A school of the arcane is also run here, by a Darcan refugee of little account or prominence. With how prominent strong weather is here, the Rebuilder Society has a noted presence, fueled by the succesful businessmen and traders here.
Climate
Vulzesh is a tropical city that is comfortably warm year round. Khalee's seasons only mark for the frequency and severity of rain and other storms into the city, including seasonal monsoons.
