Empowered

The Empowered are a type of person with innate supernatural abilities. No one knows why these people have them, however only those between the ages of 12 and 22 will seem to manifest them. It does not seem to be genetic nor a pathogen. It is random, however it seems to be most prevalent in North America, particularly the mid west affecting about 1 in 1 million people. The farther away from this area, the less Empowered there are. In North America as a whole, it affects about 1 in 1.5 million. South America it affects about 1 in 3 million with a higher concentration in the northern end. Europe and northern Asia has about 1 in 3 million affected as well. Africa has about 1 in 5 million with a concentration in the north west. South Asia and Australia has about 1 in 7 million affected.

Symptoms

All Empowered have super strength, being about 20 times stronger than their muscles should otherwise be. They bodies are also estimated to be about 30 times more enduring to stresses than they otherwise should be. Empowered can also under mental stress or with practice on command be able to speed up their thoughts significantly causing everything to feel like slow motion for them. However that is a very tiring feat for them. Each Empowered also has their own unique superpower. How this power is uniquely created for each person is unknown but is generally considered to have some connection to Information Theory.

Cultural Reception

Their is a general fear of Empowered due to their physical superiority and the many incidents caused by this. Even so, Operation Moonglow has been rounding up Empowered to create a safe environment that they can use to learn about and handle their powers. Moonglow has also created a task force of Empowered known as Lightspear Alpha company. The task force is often in the media's spotlight and are generally regarded as heroes and celebrities. Overall, the idea of Empowered is seen in a very romantic way with heroic characters like Ricardo Silva on one end and divisive personalities like Dancer on the other.
