Somehow, some way, you died in your previous life. Your soul was captured in purgatory, and you appeared in the Coalescent Dome

Can I die again?

Yes, if you die in Synthacrosia, all the energy that makes up your soul is condensed down into a single Soul Coin

Who are all these people I see everywhere?

They're all dead too. Synthacrosia has existed for over 2,000 years, but seems to capture souls from any and all timelines.

What's with the machines?

Synthacrosia is operated autonomously via Clockwork constructs.
