The Universal Nonaligned Assembly
When the nadoreans first reached beyond their birth planet, they made contact with intelligent life just two planets away on a world the locals called Kestri. The two sides convened in amiable talks, merging their knowledge and forging an unprecedented collection of treaties on trade, interspecies relations, and galactic borders. The collective governments of the two worlds soon used these treaties as the foundation for a new, unbiased, unifying organization—the Universal Nonaligned Assembly. Their work laid the groundwork for a golden age of expansion to new planets.
They forged rapidly outwards, their scientific vessels paving the way for colony ships and terraforming platforms not far behind. It proved to be too rapid for the Assembly to handle as tensions grew in their home systems between nationalists and expansionists, while denizens of some of the planets encountered in the outer systems with governments who’ve chosen not to join the Assembly started to rebel against UNA’s ever‐expanding self‐declared borders.
The Assembly is comprised of two bodies: the Delegacy and the Council of Nine. Every Assembly race may select nine different Delegates to advocate their interests by whatever method their UNA‐recognized head government deems appropriate; different races have chosen different methods for their selection, ranging from democracy (kestrid, tentomeno, lyaali) to lottery (ragarat, gindori) to having their figurehead make the assignments (nadorean, ailuri).
The Council administrates UNA’s operations and oversee the Delegates. The highest body in Assembly space, their makeup was carefully designed by the kestrid–nadorean alliance the first formed it. It consists of one Head Councilor, three positions personally chosen by the Head Councilor, and five spots filled via a vote using the Schulze method. The Head Councilor is currently Yulia Haust, though she and designated Councilor Edmun Borovar almost‐inevitably act in tandem and appear to share power in all but name.
Now, the Assembly faces enemies both outside and in. Threats of civil war simmer underneath civil façades as disparate factions form and xenophobes grow ever bolder.
Demography and Population
UNA is the administrative body beyond many planets, colonies, and stations. For Issoropeia Station itself, it is inhabited permanently by a mish‐mash of politicians, ambassadors, favor‐seekers, and a scattering of civilians who’ve chosen to make the Station their home.
Military
UNA coordinates the military forces of all member states and races, in addition to having created the Issoropeia Honor Guard (the officers of which are colloquially called Izzos) to enforce laws on and defend the Station.
Religion
As the existence of both Kallisti and Areius is an objective fact, “belief” in them is more a matter of whether or not you wish to choose a side. Officially, UNA remains neutral, but every Delegate and Councilor has their own view on spirituality.
Foreign Relations
UNA has a contentious relationship with non‐UNA lands, due to its aggressive expansion and single‐minded approach to diplomacy. The Assembly considers all of Synkros to be within its domain, and has little patience for those worlds and races that refuse to join its purview.
