Town of Stonnard and Benthammer Brewery

"You know, they say interesting things happen when the old and the new come together like this," a sly grin curled around Cloud Jumper's face. He stared up the long, winding mountain trail to the alpine village above, and knew, in his heart, this would be exactly the sort of thing he needed as a break. The dwarf leader grunted in amusement. "I know yer type, friend. I'd not worry about the rumors of any Dwarven artifacts, 'magine most of th' good ones have been taken by now..." The cat sighed, finding himself once again in the company of those who consider only the material gains of any venture. "I know, it seems like there can be nothing to find in such an... out of the way settlement, but I hear there be something much better than iron and old relics in these hills..." Cloud Jumper palmed the gemstone he'd been given not a week before, knowing this was a wild jackalope chase, or the greatest epic of a burglar and a beast in quite some time....

Stonnard

History

The town of Stonnard wasn't always the plucky little mining town hidden along the Efferwery Road. During the Iron Onslaught, the town was home to a regiment of several hundred Dwarven Mizzenguard under the rule of Emperor Barzan Ronzfir. In time, The Somerian Accord was settled between the kingdoms of Correzion Dominion State and and the Iron Emperor himself. In these trades, the mountain outpost was abandoned by the Dwarves and left to the bureaucrats to divide. When the bureaucrats sent their people to execute a proper trade of the town, they found it almost completely abandoned. The only ones that remained were the Dwarven monks of the The Town of Stoneherd and Benthammer Brewery

Demographics

Stonnard is an alpine mining town of roughly 3000-5000. The town is mostly a mining town, with more than it's fair share of taverns and inn space to accommodate a major festival. These remain somewhat stagnant most of the rest of the year, attempting to carve out whatever niches they can to pull in the business that trickles through. The town is the last stop at the foot of the Strogashz Peak, and is brisk and alpine. The town is led by a Corezzion Nation Provisor. The guard is rotated out each festival, and is often filled by the Benthammer monks themselves during times of scarce military labor. The monks sell their ales here in order to keep up living expenses for the Benthammer Monastery, and the city purchases most of it to export out at a much higher price.   The town is set on a mountain, and the roads are winding and easy to get lost on. The buildings are placed in small clusters wherever appropriate. The meticulous architecture of the old Ronzfir Empire combined with Corezzi ingenuity and engineering has led to "a city of weeds," laughing at how life finds a way to sprout these buildings on the sides of mountains.   Stonnard exports large quantities of iron, stone, and other semiprecious metals back to the Corezzi and even the Ronzfir Empire. The companies Are the Stormvild Mining Consortium, the Groufann Family, and the Hearts of Iron arm of the Empire.

Points of Interest

Hot Springs

The local mountain may appear chilly to those who have not ventured to Stonnard before, but a gem of old tectonic activity gives life to a variety of hot springs beneath the town. Some are free range, but there are a few that have made trade in providing comforts of food, drink, and company.

Taverns

The Black Flagon

Right in the Trade Center and one of the oldest taverns. Stands next to the main Hot Springs of the town. The inn is a large single-story timber framed building, with a black tile roof. The innkeeper is a young female halfling named Tam Hidlyl. He has a delightful smile, prefers to sing along with the hired bard, Iriel Gan’vendwyn. The inn is a single-story timber framed building, with a gray tile roof and unusually high ceilings. Accommodations consist of a single large room with wooden cots and a mezzanine with several wooden cots. The inn is locally known for the good quality of its food and being so close to any activity the Benthammer engage in. The main clientele of this inn are the traveling merchants and tourists.

The Wench and Wain

he inn is a single-story wooden building, with only a few crude tables and benches. Accommodations consist of several wooden cots in the cellar and woolen blankets near the hearth. The inn is locally known for its arm-wrestling contests. This inn/tavern houses predominantly the miners of the town, and is kept only in minimal repair to allow them some sleep, cheap food, and nasty ale. The ales here are brewed from the runoff water from the Benthammer Brewery. The natives of Stonnard are most likely to attend the festivities here, and is used in between shifts for drifters with small mining contracts.

The Holy Oasis

One of the more popular stops, this spring is the newest venture in the town, an attempt to bring luxury to the town of Stonnard. The tavern/inn attempts to bring the spa life

Trade Square

The flattest spot in the town naturally is the most comfortable for gathering and a "town hall." Normally a square for people to trade farm goods and tools between each other, the Square turns into a much more lively and boisterous area during the festivals or tourism booms in the summers. The area is more near the center of town, and is also the flattest spot. General Encounters

Stormvild Manor

This manor stands on the top of Stormvild Hill in the town. This is the home of the Stormvild family. They own the mine, a tavern, and are the only sign of “proper wealth” in the town. The manor is surrounded by a sturdy-looking wrought iron fence. The lord and lady of the manor, Devante and Mariana Stormvild, only take visitors if proper pleasantries are followed and are horribly offended by the sight of any barbaric behavior. The couple often throws a party at their manor for those travelers of good report or high social standing. In general, this estate is much more a cold place, where a family plots and schemes.   PCs may find Mortimer Morgenforgen or Tamvaris Dal’deneria and other traveling shop keeps. The Stormvild family is often found trying to strong arm the regent of the town. The Stormvild sometimes employs more dirty tactics in order to put their competition out of business. There are few now that compete with them in the industry.

Stormvild Mines

Owned and operated by Devante Stormvild. Provides much of the iron for weapons and the stone for proper buildings. Precious metals are a rarity, and lacks the same veins as the Groufann family has discovered. The Stormvild mines often end up digging into cave and mountain dwelling creatures, such as kobolds, feral goblinoids, and even once the hungry Otyugh.

Groufann Mines

Owned by the Groufann mining family and the last remaining mining operation not owned by Devante Stormvild. Provides stone and more sturdy metals for more strengthened weapons and enchantable items.

The Benthammer Pulpit

This is an extension of the Benthammer monastery, as a trip up the mountain is certainly a long trek for those seeking quick spiritual guidance. The Pulpit preaches the word of a . The building is a bit run down and in disrepair, as Thulmand Shael'brigh, leader of any of the flock, is far too proud to admit the need for aid, but is beginning to suffer from the affects of the Emperor's Ire. .There is a humble vegetable and flower garden, growing many mountain wild flowers a collection of modest root vegetables, and much to his dismay, a variety of mushrooms. The garden has grown into a state of some disrepair as many of the fungus have begun to sprout.

People of Interest

Iriel Gan’vendwyn

Local bard, often found performing at The Black Flagon inn. The half elven bard cannot help but eavesdrop poorly and get himself into everyone else’s business. Iriel makes light of his situation and pretends to be the fool everyone mistakes him for. In actuality, Iriel has been attempting to gather information on the Graufann and the Stormvild mining operations in order to attempt to play both sides for a fair share of coin.

Thulmand Shael'brigh

An old, war-scarred Dwarf and the preacher of the Benthammer Pulpit. Thulmand was sent by the monk Ilde Benthammer to lead the humans and others in town in prayer, citing "a desperate . Thulmand is often long winded, doesn’t like to be interrupted, and takes a while to get to the point. He is old and frail (for a dwarf). He often gets lost in tangents in his days of the military.

Devante Stormvild

A gruff man, to the point, Salt and Pepper hair. Built his empire up from mining, and has a hand in the operations of mining and mining trade all throughout the town and within the region. Respects those who respect good business. Had a hand in his younger days working the mines while his father began acquiring. Doesn’t like to talk about his blue-collar past, and prefers to keep things prim and proper. Has a weakness for gambling, either with high amounts of money or more interesting things like favors or trading labor.

Asylla Wreathenwrod

The Provisori of the town, relatively new to the world of Governance and Bureaucracy, wishes to prove herself.

Mortimer Morgenforgen

Traveling Salesman Gnome. A cart pulled by two to four llamas carries his live-in cart. The gnome has a wild assortment of items from all over, mostly are fun trinkets and things for kids during the festivals. He keeps a wide selection of books and more interesting fare for those he trusts to share knowledge with, or just likes. He has a bald top, reddish purple hair, and a magnificent beard and moustache combination. Mortimer is sometimes found conversing with his llamas when it is slow.

Tamvaris Dol’deneria

A relatively young elf selling lots of seedy goods (Items that seem magical but the enchantments do very odd things and are almost dangerous to use). An over-the-top enthusiastic character. Often performs jobs as a fence and tends to know a little bit about everyone.

Marva Kus'hahnd-Stormvild

Dwarven Wife of Devante Stormvild and is often seen bullying the regent of the town. Stout, long blonde hair often braided, and grey cold eyes. Has high tea each day at noon. Pushes the regent to give into her demands and ignore her husband’s bad business practices. Wears Lenses of Charm Person in order to accomplish this. Mainly put off by the dirty unwashed masses. Loves to flaunt her money
