Personal history
Emelyne was always told by her mother that she should be very proud of her father being a hero. For a time, she was extremely proud of her dad. But as she got older she was able to recognize the toll it took on her mother. She missed her husband very much but she had to grin and bear it. Emelyne didn't like this, and wanted to talk to her father about it when she saw him next. When they spoke her father, he doubled down on his need to save people, and that to keep him home was selfish.
She resented him for that decision, but it all came to a head when her fathers enemies found them. They beat them and they crippled Emelyne's mother. She was furious, nearly having lost her mother for her fathers job. Her father retired a few years after catching the people responsible. But she could never let something like this go. The Magnifier, the great detective who couldn't focus on his own family. An unforgivable irony that cost her mother her legs.
As the years went by and so many more people became heroes, all she thought about was more families being harmed because of a neglectful hero. "How have they not learned?" she thought. Endangering their own families to satisfy their own hubris, she became utterly disgusted at the thought of super-heroism. So she sought to right wrongs before they happened. She used the same skills her father taught her to find hero's who had families. Then force them into situations where they had to choose, their families or their career.
