Personal history
Angela Price was a quick study who was dedicated to her craft. Medical school though tediously long, wasn't much of a challenge. She graduated three years earlier than she was supposed to, and quickly found work in a hospital not far from a college. She was an incredibly bright and a very talented surgeon, specializing in eye surgery.
After several personal setbacks, she became dependent on alcohol. She was caught with alcohol in her desk, but got away with a reprimand. But when she tried to operate on a kid who lost his eyes, she got fired immediately. She was furious at everyone, herself, her job, her life. In a misguided attempt to somehow blame anyone else, she began following the kid who had the surgery. Trying to find evidence of him being unworthy of receiving the surgery. She discovered the eyes that were given to him came from someone with powers. Which had given him powers as well.
This sobered her up and changed everything. She couldn't find a way to get her old life back, but a new one was around the corner. She was a great surgeon, and everyone wanted powers. She could easily find a way to bring consenting adults to an agreement. Or if not, bring one financially liberal adult with a lot of money some spare parts. She even took a few upgrades herself, just as a precaution.
