Aeroclad

Riley Astoria Bishop, the Iron Raptor (a.k.a. Aeroclad)

Riley Bishop, best known as the hero Aeroclad (or, sometimes, Iron Raptor) is a vigilante working in Verdant Grove. Though she primarily works as a high-tier vigilante, dealing with organized crime and Rogues operating at that level, she also regularly deals with lower level crime if she comes across it. She will not, however, deal with supervillains. That stuff is definitely above her pay grade.   Outside of her work as a vigilante, Riley works as a high school teacher. She's open about her status as a Mutant, but tends to keep it on the down-low until the end of the school year; she enjoys her students' shocked reactions every time, but won't keep it hidden if it makes Imbued or Mutant students feel safer in her presence or at school.

Physical Description

Body Features

As a Mutant, Riley has a number of abnormal physical traits. She has claw-like nails on both hands and feet, which are incredibly dense and solid, almost unbreakable in toughness, though they also grow very slowly. Riley also has black feathers on various places on her body.

Identifying Characteristics

Due to the (relative) rarity of Mutants, and the sheer variety of traits they display. the easiest way to identify a specific Mutant is by, well, their Mutant traits. Between Riley's claws and feathers, she can be easily recognized. Which, coincidentally, is part of the reason why she covers so much of her body as a vigilante (aside from, well, the protective nature of armor).

Physical quirks

Aside from the obvious Mutant traits, Riley's sensitivity to air currents means she has a tendency to react to shifts and movements outside of her sight. Though she mostly manages to repress it as a civilian, she slips up sometimes, turning to face people before they can address her, and other such things.

Special abilities

Imbued Powers
  • Wind generation: Aeroclad can generate winds (blasts of air).
  • Razor wind: blast or blade of air can be used with enough force to cut. Generally combined with a weapon, but can be used even unarmed (though more difficult).
  • Aerokinetic touch: can sense shifts in the air / air currents, sensing changes and disturbances.

Skillset
Riley has trained extensively to fight with various blades, especially swords and knives. She uses these in combination with her powers to extend her range (with blades) and to channel her powers.

Apparel & Accessories

Riley's Mutant traits don't just effect her body, but also the way she dresses. Throughout most of the year she wears long sleeved clothes to cover her feathers, be it long-sleeved shirts or jackets. Often this includes leather jackets, which feed into her students' opinion of her as "the cool teacher". She also tends to wear gloves, with just the tips missing, which make it look like the claws are part of the outfit, rather than a Mutant trait.   Most notable are her shoes. The claws on her feet force her to have her shoes custom-made, as otherwise they’ll be too small on the toes or too big everywhere else. She thus often springs for steel-toed boots, which are solid enough to last her a while, and which don't get damaged as easily if her claws grow too long.   As Aeroclad, her costume focuses on heavy armor for protection, and to blend her Mutant traits into the costume to make them less identifiable. She leans into the knight aesthetic, with metal armor in shades of gray and near-black, breaking up the metal with iridescent blue cloth shaped like feathers, though she makes sure to avoid long capes. Both gloves and shoes have metal plates to resemble the scutes on bird legs, making the claws look like they're fake to fit the avian aesthetic, rather than her modeling her looks based on her physical traits.
Like her civilian gloves, Aeroclad's gloves are lacking the tips, making the claws stick out. The claws on her shoes are attached, however, but are hollow caps which go around her real claws. This helps protect them (and the toes they're attached to), but also makes them look larger.

Mental characteristics

Employment

Riley works at a high school in Verdant Grove, and has worked there for years, firmly entrenching her among her fellow teachers, even those who don't care much for Imbued. Specifically, "Ms. Bishop" teaches history classes, though she sometimes joins other classes when superpowers come up as a topic, being open about her status as a Mutant.

Personality Characteristics

Virtues & Personality perks

Riley is highly persistent and determined to see things through... to a fault, sometimes.

Vices & Personality flaws

Riley's steadfast and determined nature sometimes works against her, making her pursue something even to the point of trouble. She has trouble letting go of things, including the past.

Personality Quirks

Riley tends to come across as very stoic and dry, but hides an impish streak. She tends to wait until people get comfortable with her humorless nature, and then begins to slip in jokes and humor, making people doubt themselves... and her. Just enough to make people crack, for them to go "wow, you have emotions?" and "wait, have you been hiding a sense of humor from us all this time?".

Social

Contacts & Relations

Though Riley typically works alone as a vigilante, she has a few contacts in the business, in part because she's been operating for years. She has personally placed stakes in the development of the Dazzling Duo, Misglimmer and Swift Comet, two teenage vigilantes who attend the same school as she works at.   Less positively, Riley also keeps an eye on Hornet, a fellow vigilante and former Rogue who also operates in Verdant Grove. Riley has fought Hornet in the past, and never quite believed their heel-face turn. The fact that a kid apprentice is now involved has made her even more apprehensive and cautious, but she can't deny that Hornet has changed their ways... for now.
