Holiday Heist

"Do we have to do this every year?"
"Yes."
"Can we at least pick a different target this time?"
"Sure, but only if you can find someone worse for the country."
"...Fine. But I pick first room."
— Conversation between Ruby Gray and Evelyn Suthmeer
Everyone needs holiday traditions. Mine simply involve more government accountability than most.   E/N: And theft. Don't forget the theft.

In Theory

The idea behind the holiday heist started with a particular senator convincing their counterparts not to vote for a bill that would have crushed Daylight Savings Time. It didn't even have any shady riders on it. Just getting rid of something that damages the sleep habits of all across the country, and this senator got the bill shot down.   I decided they deserved to be punished for it, and since it was December I was able to convince my caretakers that it was festive. Since it happened to coincide with Hanukkah, I almost named it for that except I don't celebrate so people (Evelyn) got fussy about it.   The idea for the event was to gift myself the gift of vengeance upon a particularly useless politician who just happened to be wintering not too far from where I was living at the time. But not in a murderous way or anything. In an embarrassing way that made this person look incompetent and greedy.   I did have to tone down most of my scheme. In the end, we stole all of this person's lampshades, and reallocated a certain portion of their ill-gotten campaign funds back to the constituents who deserved it vastly more.   It went off so well that I decided to make it an annual thing, with the idea being to choose a new politician every year.   Instead, it's just been the same person, both for convenience and the fact that they are still one of the most useless people I know of. Always some of their money goes back to the people in their district who didn't vote for them (and even a few who did), and I always steal some specific object of theirs. One year it was soap. Another time, spoons. My favorite was the year we took all the carpets and socks so they'd have cold feet.
