Dye the Statues

Every summer, after the annual Academics Club educational retreat (aka intensive superhero training), the Academics Club Members are required by lengthy tradition that always causes problems. Every single member disavows it by the time they are AC mentors, and yet none of them can ever stop it. Everyone participates, and most of them are usually able to evade the police officers sent after them.   As one might be aware, there are a number of statues scattered across the globe that feature superheroes, usually commemorating some famous battle or simply honoring a lifetime of service. The tradition is for the AC members to paint each and every one of those statues overnight.   Some years they do well, with beautiful decorations and appropriate colors, not unlike how the ancient Greeks decorated their statues. And some years they are deliberately bad. This can range from actual lack of technical skill to something that more closely matches graffiti, to simply arraying a hero in the colors of their particular villain, or making it look as though they died a gruesome death.   Even getting caught can be considered a part of the tradition. It's usually better not to, but it's not as if the heroes don't know who actually defaced the statues. It's usually a matter of community service that typically involves cleaning off the statues. This has the added quality of ensuring that the AC members refrain from using anything too toxic or permanent since there's a decent chance they'll be the ones cleaning it up.   As much as some people might complain about this annual summer tradition, no one stops it, because it's a way of keeping a rather serious profession from getting too overwhelming, or too proud of themselves. It's different when it's your own heirs making fun.
