Also known as Shadow Master.
The man very clearly wanted to be left alone. Devoted a large part of his life to being left alone. Developed his powers so that people wouldn't even be able to find him thus making it easier to be left alone. And yet, when push came to shove, when the world needed a hero, he stepped up. Every. Single. Time.
When the time came, he was the one in the right position to give the famous We Are Here speech, thus permanently ensuring that everyone would know who he was. Sort of. They all knew who Shadow Master was, at least.
Ironic that a man with the power to control and shift shadows and a lack of light would have to spend so much time in a spotlight.
Connor Tackett, the man behind the mask, was able to at least keep his identity from the public, in no small part thanks to the shift in public perception towards superheroes thanks to his speech. People became a lot more comfortable with letting superheroes maintain their private identities.
Of course, he also ended up mentoring a number of up and comers which took away his privacy in another way.
He couldn't even leave the planet to get away from it all, because he joined the Cosmic Watch and became known all around the solar system and beyond.
He's probably got some Grozni background, but based on his features I would not want to try and figure out his ethnic background without a family tree. He's surprisingly handsome for someone so willing to keep out of the spotlight.
