Draconia

Draconia was founded in the year 281 AS by the first Mage Dragon, a wizard who succeeded in taking over the body of a feral dragon. The nation is controlled by the population of mage-dragons who followed his lead. To date, thirty wizards have succeeding in the attempt to become a dragon-mage and joined Draconia, where they are automatically granted citizenship. Two have since died, leaving the nation ruled by twenty-eight mage-dragons. They are led by the original mage-dragon, still alive today.   Owing to their backgrounds, few of the mage dragons have any interest in expanding their territory. Instead, they spend much of their time deeply involved in magical research. They are cautious and methodical about this, however, given the Sundering resulted from the elves' magical research.   The ruling class of Draconia is formed of the dragon-mages, with below them the dragonborn, known as 'Cinders', and the grey-skinned human population, known as 'Ash'. Small numbers of half-dragons also exist. In total, Draconia has a population of a little fewer than four million.   The dragonborn make up most of the country's military, with flights of wyvern-mounted aerial cavalry accompanying ground cavalry and infantry.   Much of the menial labour in Draconia is carried out by kobolds, who are rapturous at being able to serve the great dragons. They have been carefully trained and programmed to act according to their masters' wishes, and centuries of careful breeding by the dragons has resulted in a species of kobold that is smarter and stronger than typical kobolds, and unquestioningly loyal. Winged kobolds serve the administrators as swift couriers and messengers.   The hobgoblins of neighbouring Dhargul periodically push across the Dragon Strait when population pressures become too high, but are invariably repulsed with enormous losses.   Draconia trades with Bajapur and Azoria for commerce and magical items and research, but is insular and mostly closed to outsiders.
