Candlemere Island

An small island on the west end of Tuskwater Lake, Candlemere is theorized to be a source of many oddities affecting The Land of the Silver Star.   The island was once inhabited by a cult of Yog-Sothoth who built an underground temple. The Thresholders locked them behind a Spiral Seal of Pharasma centuries ago and set up an intense dread aura which persists to this day.   Physically, the seal is a sphere surrounding a portal and preventing it from getting larger. Given an inscription found in the temple, it is theorized to be a gateway to the First World and/or Yog-Sothoth. Angela believes this is thinning the veil between and melding the two planes. Supporting this theory, a writhing mass of black tentacles has manifested through the seal and seems to be attempting to weaken or break it. The tentacles are powerful enough to easily eat or melt through stone.   The rest of the island is overgrown and unremarkable, a rotting pier and a path leading to a stone lighthouse with a west-facing window. The lighthouse leads to the underground temple. A number of rooms have been explored so far:
  • An entryway with an offering basin containing millennia-old coins from the Age of Destiny
  • A room with circular scorches on the ceiling but no apparent traps
  • A room with high vaulted ceilings and several dozen stone orbs on a dias, which transform into an animated, aggressive statue of Yog-Sothoth. The dias has an inscription reading "Yog-Sothoth who knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth who is the gate. Past, present and future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth."
  • A storage room (accessible by two hidden doors) containing remnants of a bunch of decayed items, a wand and a bronze canister (Angela was found here)
  • A room guarded by malicious shadows who drain people's strength until they die and turn into shades themselves
  • A room half-filled with black tentacles completely covering the Seal, which also have somehow eaten through the nearby stone
Through a series of tactical errors and some bad luck, Cherry was killed by the shades to allow his allies to escape, though he was later recovered and resurrected.
