Ona Vox

Speaker Ona Vox (a.k.a. Vox Prime)

Ona Vox (2194 - 2284) was a famed Tandorite orator and mediator from Tandora in the Romeda system. She is well known for being one of the first private citizens to be cloned, leading to many changes in the legal landscape of cloning and arguably starting the so-called 'clone culture' that now exists on Tandora.
An orator and mediator of great talent, Ona Vox quickly rose through Tandorite politics and eventually came to be employed directly in the Justice House. She married the Supreme Justice, Vardan Ulser (2183 - 2241) in 2237 and he took her name. Alongside her husband, Ona Vox served as Tandora's ambassador to the Interplanetary Alliance. Their daughter, Kaiba Vox was born in 2239. Two years later in 2241, Ona lost a second pregnancy and five months later, Vardan was assassinated by a political rival.
In 2242, Ona Vox petitioned for the right to clone herself as a private citizen. The house denied her petition and insisted she undergo psychiatric testing and counselling for six months. Undeterred, Vox raised her petition again. With the threat of legal action as the Supreme Justice's widow and proof that plans and discussion of her genetic donation had been in place since before his death and her lost pregnancy on her side, she was granted the right to be cloned.
In 2244, Ona Vox announced the successful birth of twins, Hidei and Lidea Vox. An investigation was launched, as the petition granted Vox the legal right to have her genetic material to be used to produce a single clone iteration. However, review of documentation revealed that both girls were indeed the result of a single iteration, the produced embryo had split into two - both being found viable, resulting in identical twins. Ona Vox raised Hidei and Lidea as her daughters, alongside her biological daughter Kaiba. She wrote a book about her experiences Hidei and Lidea, which has subsequently become a best-seller on seventeen planets.
Between 2267 and 2271, Ona Vox worked with the family of Grand Speaker Xethryn lor Eschir to edit and preface his memoir 'On the Human Approach'. The book was published in 2272, and Vox later published a Romedan translation.
Ona Vox retired as Tandora's ambassador to the Interplanetary Alliance in 2274. She died of natural causes in 2284 at the age of 90.

Further Cloning

Ona Vox's petition for the right to be cloned as a private citizen opened discussions of public access to cloning and led to legal changes and the right to genetic donation being made universal on Tandora. Ona Vox subsequently became an advocate for transparency in cloning methods and the rights of genetic donors. In her own stead, she and her family authorised multiple additional clone iterations using her genetic material.

In 2262, Vox consented to the use of her genetic material to test a new method of cloning developed by the Tanser Institute, which would be able to detect viability without having to produce an embryo. This resulted in the birth of Sofi Vox-Tanser. Sofi was subsequently adopted by the head of the institute, Eren Urich-Tanser, himself a clone adopted of the founder of the institute and Sofi's namesake, Sofija Tanser. In 2271, a clone was commissioned using Vox's genetic material by an unknown commissioner. The clone was never claimed by her commissioner, and she was ultimately adopted by Ona's cousin and named Vera Ona Xarda (her first and second names being chosen to deliberately spell VOX with her initials). Vera's commissioner was never identified and authorities now consider her the first example of Clone Commission Fraud, against which protections now exist. Due to her unclaimed commission, the Vox family were left with an estimated bill of 280,000 imgrats (1.3 million IPA). Vera Ona Xarda subsequently became a film actress. In 2278, 'Vox 4' was commissioned through the New Tanser Method as part of the previous agreement that had produced Sofi. However, the iteration was ruled non-viable due to sample degradation. This was the first failed iteration produced from Ona Vox, and she gave a new genetic sample following.
Through 2279 and 2283, Ona Vox's genome was sequenced and thoroughly studied to discover just what made it particularly resistant to acquiring abnormalities across three different cloning methods. The Vox Genome Project was suspended by Ona's death in 2284, but with the permission of her family it was resumed in 2288.
Ona's biological daughter Kaiba adopted 'Vox 5' a clone produced with a particularly selected genome to theoretically reproduce Ona exactly and born in 2296. 'Vox 5' came out as transgender in 2318 and changed his name to Harmon Vox. (Full Articles: Vox Genome Project, Harmon Vox)

In 2299, the Vox family entered Ona's genetic material into limited public use. As a result, an iteration was run in 2304 to produce 'Vox 6'. However, clerical errors led to the iteration being incorrectly reported as nonviable. A legal battle ensued as the commissioner attempted to renege on paying the commission fees, and was consequently sued by the Tanser Institute. The Vox family subsequently withdrew Ona's genetic material from iteration and ended its sixty year relationship with the Tanser Institute. Sofi Vox-Tanser sided with the family over the institute and dropped 'Tanser' from her name as a result of the dispute, choosing to instead go by Sofi Vox with the family's blessing.
The clone ended up unclaimed and was ultimately raised in foster care. Through misread documentation, 'Vox 6' was named by the state Vox Ona Sichs. The error was not discovered until 2318. Vox Ona Sichs joined the IPASF in 2322 and was assigned to Earth Free Station 7. In 2328, she was appointed as the station's assistant security director. (Full Article: Vox Ona Sichs)
