Size and Shape

Space Dragon Doodle by Frod0_baggins
Space dragons are long, snake-like animals with a large set of wings half-way down their length. They have spikes on both their forehead and their tail. From their head to their tail, space dragons are between 3 and 5 metres in length with a 15 metre wingspan.

Colour and Pattern

Space dragons scales are bright and colourful. They take on a range of colours, anywhere from blue to pink or yellow, and tend to be similar in colour to the dragons planet of origin although there are rare instances where a dragon may be born entirely black or white.

Fire Breathing

Space dragons breathe a cone of flame as a defence mechanism and a hunting tool. The flame changes colour based on the dragon's emotional state, and can even change in temperature intensity depending on the use. Because of this, the flame can range from engulfing many metres, to only a few centimetres making space dragons to be very unpredictable obstacles for spaceships.

Ecology and Habitats

Very Tasty Spaceships

Although space dragons do not travel often, they have a particular affinity for picking up on spaceships in the surrounding area. When they notice them, they become fixated on devouring them, which is unusual for the usually carnivorous creatures. It is possible that they pick up on the presence of another sentient being, but a clear answer has not yet been discovered...

Ideal Location

Space Dragons tend to live close to planets where there is an atmosphere that allows sound to travel because their hearing is increased and they can better navigate the environment. They will sometimes travel deeper into space but the further they travel the more their senses struggle. Because of this, a space dragon will usually never leave the planet it was born on and will spend most of its life in one place.   Space dragons are quite rare, and usually only one planet in a solar system will be home to any. They favour planets that are warm, dry and usually on the smaller side. It is also important that the planet has at least one naturally occurring animal of its own, as space dragons are carnivorous creatures. Although, some smaller, cooler planets are home to smaller space dragons but this is less common.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Space dragons are completely blind, but counter-act this with incredibly sensitive auditory senses. They are able to hear the individual vibrations caused by spaceships, planets and other creatures. This allows them to precisely locate objects for large distances around themselves.

Vanishing Dragons

Space dragons also have the ability to become invisible at will. This is mainly used as a hunting technique, because their bright colours and large size makes it difficult for them to creep up on their prey.
