Tavitzek (tuh VIT zehk)

Geography

Holopedia Galactica entry:

Tavitzek is a temperate, moist world whose predominate terrain type on land varies between "jungle" and "swamp", and whose vast underwater ecologies include many coral reef "rainforests" and protist "jungles" on the gently inclining seabeds. It has two moons: "Premfe" and "Yurthith" in Ithorese, "Pravo" and "Vendula" to the local Tapani residents.
Tavitzek is the domain of two Baronies, each of which also has titular responsibility for one of the two moons. As with the Baronies of the other populated planets in this system, both of these reigning Barons swear fealty to Countess Svatava Aloisie Vorhrabě of House Vorhrabě, a member of the Vorreena collective House group.

It is within the standard gravity range of typical inhabited planets in the galaxy.
Local days are twenty-nine standard hours long.
Local years are three hundred five local days long, equivalent to slightly over one standard year.
Tavitzek has a Type II atmosphere: Breath mask suggested. A type II atmosphere can support life without use of a breath mask, but either due to too much or too little atmospheric pressure or oxygen, or unusual gases or contaminants, it is recommended that a breath mask be worn. Without a breath mask, detrimental effects, such as slowed reactions, reduced brain activity, poisoning, or a myriad of other effects can begin to occur within just a few hours of exposure. Many alien species can comfortably breathe type II atmospheres without having to resort to breath masks. In the particular case of Tavitzek, the hazards are a slightly higher than ideal percentage of CO2 and a high particulate content to the atmosphere of pollens and flake minerals that are potentially damaging to human or most near-human lungs.

The axis of the planet is offset approximately eighteen degrees to the orbital plane, causing mild seasonal variation throughout the local year. Temperatures outside of high mountains or at the narrow ice caps on the planet's poles seldom decrease to the point of significant snowfall. Temperatures average between -5 and 29 degrees Celsius, and is in the most comfortable temperature bands for humans and many near-human species.
The sentient population of Tavitzek was counted in the census of Tapani Year 12730 as 7.1 million, most of whom live in the domed and temperature-controlled cities in the deeper equatorial regions of the major ocean. Large towns and two small cities do exist on Kurdna the smallest continent, but their population and borders are carefully limited to minimize impact on the other continents. Kurdna is also the sole surface-level location of active agriculture on this world, mostly orchards.

The planet is approximately thirty-three percent covered in land. The planet has a large continental mass ("Jiskra") on its northern hemisphere connected by multiple isthmuses to the three smaller continental masss of the equatorial region, with islands becoming more frequent in the southern hemisphere where the ocean currents can become extremely powerful during cyclone season. The polar ice caps cover no more than ten percent of the planetary surface in even the coldest years.
Seven domed cities are located in the oceans and a variety of town-sized to farm-sized domes connect by tubes to the cities and the surface platforms.
Expeditions are strongly advised to carry extra air purification supplies.
The primary starport for Tavitzek is located near the edge of the north polar ice cap, on a formerly volcanic plateau known as Klenot. It is a Limited Services Class starport, since most hyperspace-related business should have taken place at Musetyar, over in Tillo System, or ideally at the intersection of the Caloria Run and the Procopian Shipping Lane in Reena System. The Bureau of Ships and Services does maintain and staff a control tower here to prevent collisions between ships in the planet's airspace. There may be maintenance sheds for rent. There may be fuel for sale, but other important supplies are unavailable.

Tourism

Archaeological evidence indicates that in ancient pre-history, Tavitzek is a planet that was settled by another culture, a company, or some other wealthy institution. Then, for some reason, the colony was left behind. Arguments abound in the univiersity archives as to whether this planet hosted any life at all before it came to orbit within the Tavitz System, much less whether these old artifacts of civilization were created by whoever installed this world. And why did the original settlers leave?
