AR-WP 7 Arcturus Wingpack Vehicle in Star Wars: Shards | World Anvil

AR-WP 7 Arcturus Wingpack

I know these things. Great idea, though the wings are vulnerable targets. Where a rocket or a jet pack is just you throwing yourself somewhere with an engine strapped to your back, this thing requires some skill to use. If you get good at using it? You’ll probably never get hit if you’re flying.

The Arcturus Wingpack is a model of jet pack from Siricon Flight Systems. This pack was developed as an alternative to the rare and hard to acquire insectoid Flutter Pack that is only found in the Yinchorr System.

Similar in form and function to the Flutter Pack, the Arcturus Wingpack uses a single engine attached to a wing system. The user of the pack controls speed using a small console built into a bracer. Direction is managed through the wearer turning and adjusting their body, much like a skydiver. But the similarities to the Yinchorr Flutter Pack end there.

Lightweight, the Wingpack uses fuel cells that will require recharging once spent. Wingpack owners carry a backup fuel cell in case there isn’t a recharging station nearby. The storage location is at the middle top of the back between the wing hinge housing.

A Wing Above the Rest

The pack does use wings like the Yinchorr Flutter. But the Arcturus' wings are not insect-like in design. Wings on the AR-WP 7 are based on the shape of at atmospheric glider. At the end of each wing, there is a small turbine propellors inset into the wing itself.

These propellors provide added stability during flight and take off. On launch, other jet packs react like a rocket, propelling the user in one direction, with little ability to control their flight at that moment. The wing with inset propellor system allows the user a modest range of maneuverability during vertical takeoff and landing.

When not in use, the wings fold back and retract into the pack's housing. The 20kg weight, which is rather light for a rocket or jet pack, is due to the wings and other primary portions of the pack being made from a spun carbon-fiber nanotubes.

Power Generation

The pack's power comes from a series of four rechargable power cells. They are the same type of cells used to power most standard blaster rifles.

Propulsion

The AR-WP 7's main propulsion is an electric jet propulsion system as the pack is primarily designed for use in atmosphere. Many owners do many modifications to the AR-WP 7 with a backup ion engine. This allows the pack to function in space.

That's not all the alterations people make to these things. The wings are durable, but hollow. I've known more than one pirate who installs hold out blasters in each of the wings.

Aerena: They look cool to fly and all, but I really prefer to have my X-Wing wrapped around me. More firepower if nothing else!

Well, an X-Wing won’t fit everywhere. Why not have both on hand?
