Sarcosuchus Species in Star Tiger | World Anvil

Sarcosuchus

A creature native to the humid homeworld of the Sobek.
The Sarcosuchus Sobechius is a huge crocodile looking creature, which gave rise to the name sarcosuchus after an extinct giant crocodile on Terra.
This creature plays a big role in the history of the Sobek as first the higher step in the food chain, later a partially tameable mount for warfare and lately it has given its name and likeness to the most devastating starships in the Cosmos - the NSC Sarco
The sarco is a symbol of strength for the Sobek, both due to its impressive power, but also the powerful success story of the Sobek overcoming the greatest beast of their homeland.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Sarcosuchus is a large crocodilian creature, with four legs a tail and a long snout.
It is covered in a scaly leather.

Genetics and Reproduction

A sarco typically lays 15-30 eggs that incubate for 90-100 days. Much like crocodiles the temperatures around the nest determine the sex of the hatchlings.
Due to facultative parthenogenesis, if a female sarco is unable to find a mate, she can reproduce asexually, however the lack of "donated genes" cause simpler minds and greater aggression. Luckily these are visibly darker than their counterparts.

Ecology and Habitats

The best environment is a humid, warm climate.
The sarcos hunt on land and in water, but prefer having both available.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Sarcos are hunting carnivores. They prefer not to stray to far from their landed nesting area, but they can swim far for food if needed.
Preferably they lie in wait under the watersurface and lounges at unsuspecting pray

Biological Cycle

If they cannot find enough food, they go into aestivation, a semi-dormant state.
Many terrible encounters comes from someone waking a sleeping sarco from this state.

Additional Information

Domestication

Though always considered feral if encounted, the Sobek has actually managed to tame the beast at least partially.
If not fed enough it will often turn on its owner, but if well fed and often socialized with, it can bond to an owner and tolerate being saddled.
It can be quite clever if motivated and kept familiar with its owner.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Historically the sarcosuchus has been used by the Sobek as a terrifying mount during warfare. Their leather has been used for armor and their bones for weapons and jewelry by the fierced warriors.

I made this world because my mind keeps rambling, and instead of stopping it, I'm riding the wave.
It started with a picture in my mind of a tiger man in a small spacecraft following a giant tiger in space, in the tone of old saturday morning cartoons and the Heavy Metal animated movie.
Then came the idea of his occational ally, a woman in space flying a small asteroid. The more I wrote on her, the more I got intrigued by the past, I deviced.
Right now the flow is focused on her background - namely all related to The Genesis Project.
I do all of the writing and almost all of the drawing myself at this point.
My hope for Star Tiger is a published story or a graphical novel, but my big dream is an animated show.
