Moon Skin Condition in Star Tiger | World Anvil

Moon Skin

A genetic mutation that causes completely white skin and more saturated colored hair and eyes.
It has been surmised, that the chemicals used in some cosmetic genemodifications cause this condition to your future children, but then again it has also been linked to tales of alien abductions.
On civilized planets, an estimated 1 in 100.000 are born with this condition.

Causes

It has been surmised, that the chemicals used in some cosmetic genemodifications cause this condition to your future children, but then again it has also been linked to tales of alien abductions.
Even though a lot of tests have been made into the matter, the actual cause is yet to be found.

Symptoms

Moon Skin manifests as marble white skin and highly saturated eye and hair colors, matching in color spectrum on the afflicted, but wastly different between people - Where one might have bright magenta eyes and hair, another might have turquoise eyes and hair.

Treatment

There is no way to treat Moon Skin. In fact, genetically there is nothing to treat against as the cause of the condition has not been found and does not show up as an anomaly in any test.

Prognosis

Good news is that Moon Skin does not effect your physical health in any way. You are born pale as snow and will be for life, but it cannot be linked to any other health conditions. Actually, patients with Moon Skin share the trait of being surprisingly healthy.

Sequela

It has been linked to visual halucinations as well, as the so called Oracles from The Church of Many Colors typically carries both the white skin and what they call Veil Sight, but individuals outside the church with Moon Skin have mensioned viewing the world in "other colors" as well.

Epidemiology

Moon Skin shows up apparently at random throughout civilization. Nothing noticeably seems to trigger the condition on larger planets, however there is a curious tendency on new settlement worlds, where against the usual odds of an estimated 1 in 100.000 are born with this condition, in frontier settlements, a population never reaches 3.000 before one is born with the condition.

History

While skin color diseases have been known to man all time, and it has a slight resemblance to albinism, Moon Skin is something that had never been documented before the age of space colonization, where it brought quite a scare as some "space disease".
As time passed, the condition grew to be more accepted on most planets.
A most peculiar thing happened as Humans started meeting other spacefarers in Cosmos: The condition seemed to be present in their ranks too.

Cultural Reception

The afflicted are, on most worlds, considered no more different than anyone afflicted with other skin diseases.
Some do whisper in the corners about them being alien spies though, and it is not common for children of this condition to be ostracized and even bullied, in less strict schools.
To the Church of Many Colors, the condition is revered, as it is seen as a sign of Veil Sight and a favoring of the Interstellar Gods.

I made this world because my mind keeps rambling, and instead of stopping it, I'm riding the wave.
It started with a picture in my mind of a tiger man in a small spacecraft following a giant tiger in space, in the tone of old saturday morning cartoons and the Heavy Metal animated movie.
Then came the idea of his occational ally, a woman in space flying a small asteroid. The more I wrote on her, the more I got intrigued by the past, I deviced.
Right now the flow is focused on her background - namely all related to The Genesis Project.
I do all of the writing and almost all of the drawing myself at this point.
My hope for Star Tiger is a published story or a graphical novel, but my big dream is an animated show.
