Lych-room

Prerequisite: Level 5, base cost 500 gp.   Facility Rating: 2 (Cramped, 4 Squares)   Supply: 1 Arcane or 1 Worship   Action: Empower     Most vessels have areas in the darkest corners of their Cargo Hold to carry the dead if required, but aboard a vessel the Lych-room performs this function with dedicated holding Cabinets, embalming and surgical tools, solid benches, and typically contains arcane or divine reagents for the creation and maintenance of the undead.   Creatures created within a Lych-room are considered Black Market items and/or treated hostile outside of settlements dedicated to gods and powers of the Death domain. Having these items and/or creatures discovered aboard your vessel while docked, or in your inventory and discovered while at a civilised settlement is a risk with law enforcement or local authorities. They cannot be bought or sold outside of a Black Market.
Crew Access
While your vessel has an active Lych-room, your Sick Bay can treat Undead creatures, and you can recruit crew with the Undead creature type.
Install Options
When you install a Lych-room you choose the size of the Cabinets. There may be four separate medium sized Cabinets, one large sized Cabinet and two medium sized Cabinets cells, two large sized Cabinets, or even a single huge Cabinet. If you install multiple Lych-room facilities, you can even combine the Cabinets into larger areas.
Cabinets
Each Cabinet can hold and preserve a single pile of bones or the corpse of a creature equal to its size or smaller. Bones and corpses placed in a Cabinet in an Active Lych-Room do not decompose, including Undead creatures.
Empower Options
When you use the Empower action with this facility, choose one of the following options:   Empower: Create Skeleton or Zombie. You must be level 10, be able to use a Spellcasting Focus, and either have proficiency with Religion, Arcana, or Nature to use this action. Choose any number of piles of bones and/or corpses stored within Cabinets within the Lych-room, equal to or less than your proficiency modifier. The target(s) become an Undead creature: a Skeleton if you chose bones or a Zombie if you chose a corpse (see appendix B of the Player’s Handbook for the stat blocks). If the creature was not humanoid within life, the DM will provide an alternative suitable stat block (such as a Minotaur Skeleton or an Ogre Zombie).   The freshly created Undead are under your control for the next forty days, otherwise treated as if you had cast the Animate Dead or Create Undead spell. They may serve as enthralled crew, and do not need to rest or sleep.   Empower: Renew control. You must control one or more Undead creatures aboard the vessel, be level 10, be able to use a Spellcasting Focus, and either have proficiency with Religion, Arcana, or Nature to use this action. You extend your control over the creatures for the next forty days, otherwise treated as if you had cast the Animate Dead or Create Undead spell.   Empower: Awaken Undead. You must control one or more Undead creatures aboard the vessel, be level 10, be able to use a Spellcasting Focus, and either have proficiency with Religion, Arcana, or Nature to use this action. Target a number of Undead creatures (which must be either under your control, or willing participants) equal to or less than your proficiency modifier, currently within Cabinets in the Lych-room and listed on the Awaken Undead Table below. Make a proficiency check with your spellcasting ability for each target you wish to Empower. If you are successful the creature is (or creatures are) permanently transformed from its (or their) current stat block and Awakens Into the creature (or creatures) and stat block (or stat blocks) listed. If you are successful with a natural 20, give the newly awoken creature (or creatures) +2 to one ability score of your choice, and proficiency with one additional skill. If you fail the proficiency check by rolling a natural 1 the creature is destroyed.
*This Awoken undead is no longer under your control, but becomes a friendly NPC with a base loyalty of 15 and an alignment of your choosing. ⛧A character may only awaken a number of these creatures up to their spellcasting ability modifier per calendar year.
