We, the undersigned, in the spirit of adventure and fellowship through battle, do hereby affirm the creation of The Lightwood Company/La Compañía Lightwood, and enter into covenant with our fellows members. The purpose of this company shall be to hire out our fists and our brains to defend the weak, to use our hearts and our words to aid the just, and to defend against that which seeks out the innocent with ill intent or malice.
In accordance, we hereby adopt the following by-laws for membership:

All members of the Company are to be accorded equal voice and vote when called to do so, regardless of race, occupation, prior rank, or condition of servitude.

A Company member shall give their best effort in all tasks for the Company, above all, defending the lives and property of fellow members. A member ill-suited to a task shall nevertheless aid those who are.

All active members and honourably discharged members of the Company will be welcome to a Company Gathering, to be hosted by the Company Commander and funded by the Company on the anniversary of the Founders birth. The Company Gathering must include but not be limited to, in the following order:

• Begin with honouring those within the Ledger of the Fallen
• Allow resolution of any outstanding Company Judgements against members
• Allow formal induction of new members
• Allow formal vote on any proposed changes to Company by-laws
• Allow feast, provided at Company Commanders expense
• End with revelry.

Just compensation shall be awarded to all members who prove their worth and work in the name of the company, as follows:

• Recruit (<1y membership, single chevron) 5 gold per tenday, with an annual retainer of 50 gold.
  

• Regular (1 to 5 years membership, double chevron) 10 gold per tenday, with an annual retainer of 150 gold.
  

• Veteran (5 years membership, and endorsement by majority at the annual company meeting, triple chevron) 15 gold per tenday, with an annual retainer of 500 gold.
  

• Company Captain (5 years membership as Veteran, and endorsement by majority at the annual company meeting, triple chevron and single bar) 20 gold per tenday, with an annual retainer of 1,000 gold.
  

• Company Commander (Company Founder or appropriate replacement, triple chevron and double bar) 5 gold per tenday, with an annual retainer of 200 gold.

Upon joining the Company, each member may nominate one proxy beneficiary for their wages, and provided assistance in recording any wishes for a religious or secular ceremony to be held upon the event of their death.

A member dishonourably discharged from the company will be given the opportunity to retrieve any personal belongings from any company lodgings, before forfeiting their right to their last tendary of award, their next annual retainer, and any claim laid upon treasure from a Company contract completed within the last month.

A member honourably discharged will be given the opportunity to retrieve any personal belongings from any company lodgings, be permitted to rent lodgings from the Company at appropriate rates for the lodging without reference, and be welcomed to re-apply for Company membership at their previous rank with the endorsement of a Company Captain or the Company Commander.

Any member may request honourable discharge by Company Commander or agreeance of two or more Company Captains, outside of active deployment on Company contract.

All Company contracts require endorsement from either the Company Commander and/or one Company Captain, and at least five other Regulars or Veterans of the Company.

Any member accused of dereliction or unwarranted offence upon another member of the Company will be judged by a majority vote of five other Regular, Veteran, or Company Captains of the Company, those judging being of no less than one rank ‘fore the accused. Before and in lieu of judgement, the accused may elect to be honourably discharged with the Company Commanders or a Company Captains endorsement, and/or elect to be placed on inactive duty pending judging by majority of all members present at the next Company Gathering. Judged poorly, the accused shall forfeit all monies and treasures from said mission to the Company Legacy coffer. Judged fairly the accused shall be free from further refrain or debridement within the Company.

Any member judged poorly three times, or committing grievous bodily harm or invasion upon another member of the Company, or found to be stealing from or under the guise of the Company will be dishonourably discharged from the Company immediately, without further ceremony.

A Ledger of The Fallen is to be kept of those who forfeit their lives while working in the name of the company, to be read and honoured at every Company Gathering.

A Company Legacy coffer is to be maintained as solvent at all times. No less than ten percent of the takings of any Company contract takings must be tithed unto the Company Legacy coffer. It will be the responsibility of the Company Commander and up to two Company Captains of the Commanders nomination to manage and guard the Company Legacy coffer

No more than a tenday after each Company Gathering, no less than half the balance of the Company Legacy coffer is to be divided equally amongst the proxy beneficiaries of each member recorded within the Ledger of the Fallen.

With the approval of two or more Company Captains, or the Company Commander, any Regular, Veteran, or other Company Captain may lay claim on a single piece of treasure secured as reward from any Company contract that member has taken majority part in, of value of up to twice their yearly retainer. Should two or more members present for a contract lay claim to an individual piece of treasure, a reasonable and non-lethal contest must be proposed by a Company Captain not laying claim, or the Company Commander, to determine the outcome.

At the Company Commander or organising Company Captains discretion, members undertaking a reasonably dangerous Company Contract may receive double usual wages for the duration of said contract as Hazard Pay.

Upon death of the Company Founder, up to five nominations for a new Company Commander are to be nominated from among five Company Captains, or up to any ratio of five Company Captains or Veterans should less than five Company Captains be available.

Nominations must be supported by at least five Regular, Veteran, or Company Captain members. Voting is to be made by show of hands within the largest holding of the Company, no more than one month after the death of the Company Founder.

Once voted upon and sworn in, the Company Commander will serve and host three Company Gatherings, upon which they may retire and may nominate one successor candidate for the next Company Commander vote. In this case the Company Commander nominations are to be voted upon at the beginning of the next Company Gathering.

Any member of the Company may propose a mission of conscience to the Company, so long as it does not violate an existing Company contract. Said mission must be approved by the majority of standing Company Captains and Veterans, and may be terminated by a majority of the same.

Upon completion of any contract of major financial significance, the Company Commander is granted leave to provide members with a bonus taken from the earnings of the contract.

These by-laws are subject to change pending the approval of the majority of the Company members present at the Company Gathering.
Changes must be submitted in writing to the Company Commander no less than one tenday before the Company Gathering.
