Generations

How Generations Work

Spectre Generations are groups denoting Era and method of emergence. Spectra are grouped into a Generation upon emergence, assuming another Spectre was there to observe it. Exceptions to this do exist, though exceedingly rare, only including Opal and Onyx. Outside of the Prime there is no hierarchical significance to one's Generation.

A fun and easy way to remember the Generational names and order is the acronym "pastel" (PSTL), in which the P represents Prime, S Secondary, T Tertiary, and L Stellar. This trick was invented during the Era of Delight by Rust.

Prime

Consisting of only three specimens, the Prime Generation are Saffron, Delphinium, and Sun—the first to emerge, in that order. These Spectra are viewed by the following Generations in a variety of ways. Some see them as parents, others as older siblings, and a few as deities. Perception of them seems to grow increasingly warped with Generational separation.

Secondary

The direct combinations of Prime influence are called Secondary. These Spectra all emerged during the Era of Exploration, when the Prime Spectra first discovered their ability to induce the emergence of new Spectra. The first of these was Violet, who was formed by coincidence while Saffron and Delphinium were communing.

Tertiary

The Spectra of the Tertiary Generation emerged during the Era of Delight. They can be combinations of Prime and Secondary influence—most being Secondary only. This Generation is naturally the largest and most diverse of them all. One of the most culturally significant is Prim, whose emergence cemented Opal's and Onyx's statuses as Spectra.

Stellar

The Stellar Spectra are the many "children" of Sun. Born during the Stellar Era—or the Age of Frenzy, as Delphinium calls it, they represent almost a third of all Spectre population. The members of this Generation are the most similar in appearance and most different in sentiment. Some are adoring of Sun and their manic obsession with spreading their influence, and some resent being induced to emerge before they felt they were ready.
