Qualifications

To hold this position, it is necessary to have a degree in law or a related field and at least five years of experience in the judicial domain. Also, although this is not a criterion, most of the recipients of the position have previously held a position specifically in the federal judicial system.

Requirements

To hold this position, candidates must be citizens of the Republic, meet the necessary qualifications, be of legal age, not be the subject of legal proceedings at the time of filing their candidacy, not have been convicted of a crime within twenty years preceding his candidacy and have no apparent conflict of interest with any individual, corporation or government. Finally, if he held a high public office, he does not claim to have been convicted of a political crime or to have violated the Republican Code of Political Ethics.

Appointment

The selection process starts when the previous holder of the title either resigns or reaches retirement age, it is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court who ensures the transition while the short appointment is in progress. A candidate are then presented by an independent commission to the President of the Legislature who confirms the nomination.

Duties

The Registrar of the Republic has a duty to ensure the proper functioning of the Supreme Court, to respect the Constitution of the Federal Republic and to perform these functions with integrity while acting as a worthy representative of the judicial system of the Republic.

Responsibilities

The Registrar of the Republic is responsible for taking care of the administration of the federal judicial system, archiving the decisions of all the federal courts, appointing the Commissioner of the Elections who must verify the respect of the democratic processes of the Republic by the Federal Electoral Commission and appointing members of the Supreme Court as well as the other federal courts with candidates presented by an independent commission. For the appointment of the Commissioner of the Elections from the candidate given by the Office of the Federal Civil Service, this need to be confirmed by a vote in the Federal Tribunal of Electoral Affairs, which must vote in favor of the candidate for him to be officially appointed.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The Registrar of the Republic can be removed from office only if he is found guilty of any crime by the Federal Court of Political Crimes after an investigation by the Governmental Division of the Republican Guard.
