Callisto

The first real colony in the outer solar system, it was founded in 2059 by a group under the aegis of the UN which launched an expedition to the moon of the Jovian system. Later, the Solar Confederation gave him the status of member in 2076 which allowed him to form his own government. It is today a moon with a modest population, but which still has an importance in the solar system since a good part of the people working on the Archangel Station reside on Callisto and also to a lesser extent Ganymede. It is also a very useful stopover for travelers crossing the solar system, allowing them to have access to all the services of a city without having too long a transfer time between the surface and space.

Demographics

Callisto has a total population of 840 million which is made up entirely of humans, the capital of the outer planets and main city on the moon is Zaras which also hosts the main spaceport on the moon. The rest of the population is concentrated in many cities of different size all around the moon, mixing underground and under pressurized domes section.

Government

Due to their proximity and small total population compared to other planets, the government of the outer solar system's three inhabited moons of Callisto, Ganymede, and Titan were merged under a single planetary government based at Callisto. The capital of this one is Zaras on the same planet, the city contains all the institutions necessary for government. The planetary court, the offices of the executive and the Planetary Assembly were installed in the Zaras' governmental districts. The executive apparatus is made up of the representative of the planet which is called an Intendant and the various departments which deal with the competences which are allotted to the Callisto's government.

Defences

Callisto is protected by Fort Lubumbashi as well as an Orbital Defense System (ODS) which is made up of several orbital cannons used to support Navy vessels in the event of an attack. The planet is also defended by the Army and the Air Force whose task is to defend it against any invasion attempt, Marine Force units are also stationed on the planet.

Industry & Trade

Callisto is an important center for the refinement of minerals coming from the mining carried out within the Jovian system, the fact that it does not have a biosphere also allows it to have its own mining activities on its territory. On a commercial level, it is an important node for the internal traffic of the solar system, being also the rallying point of the outer Solar System.

Infrastructure

Due to its lack of atmosphere, there is no train network unlike other planets or moons, instead planetary ferries are used which connect the different cities which are all equipped with landing bays designed for these ships. It also has two spaceports which are designed to harbor vessels coming from outside with the largest being in Zaras and the same number of orbital stations. The last ones are to accommodate vessels not designed to land, although more ships can land than on other planets due to the low gravity.

Architecture

The cities of Callisto are like all the republican cities, they have a lot of vegetation, use a lot of glass and carbon fiber materials on mid-rise or high-rise buildings. Although efforts are often made to keep a reasonable scale, the central districts of republican cities are often made up of very tall buildings with extravagant shapes which can sometimes form several urban floors. However, the peripheral districts are more generally made up of medium-sized buildings and for the parts on the border, we see more low density with only a few floors. The particularity of Callisto is that she have many cities under domes or partially underground which means that the possible height for buildings is limited unlike other planets or moons.

Geography

Callisto's surface can be divided into several geologically different parts: cratered plains, light plains, bright and dark smooth plains, and various units associated with particular multi-ring structures and impact craters. The cratered plains make up most of the surface area and represent the ancient lithosphere, a mixture of ice and rocky material. The light plains include bright impact craters like Burr and Lofn, as well as the effaced remnants of old large craters called palimpsests, the central parts of multi-ring structures, and isolated patches in the cratered plains. These light plains are thought to be icy impact deposits. The bright, smooth plains make up a small fraction of Callisto's surface and are found in the ridge and trough zones of the Valhalla and Asgard formations and as isolated spots in the cratered plains.
