Nivlac Species in Spacial Tangent | World Anvil

Nivlac

The Nivlac are a species of fungoid native to Espinosa. Before their civilization was devastated by the Evergrowth, they had obtained a technological level comparable to modern-day Earth. After the infestation of their homeworld, only 10 survived upon their space station. Thankfully, the Nivlac are very hardy and possess remarkable reproductive capabilities.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A Nivlac is a sort of strange looking fungoid that consists of rather flat, almost disc-like torso, with a long neck leading to a head. It posses four limbs for manipulation objects, which sprout from its head, and another six for locomotion, which sprout from their lower body. They do possess sight, achieved through many miniscule eyes. And talk by vibrating the many strands that make up their necks.   Nivlac give off an oddly sweet odour.

Genetics and Reproduction

These fungoids reproduce by budding, that is to say, they effectively shed clones of themselves. The genetic duplication is messy, producing random mutation, only 1 in 8 buds survive past the earliest development stages, though once they do, they rapidly grow to adulthood in a matter of weeks. Despite possessing respectable medical technology, Nivlac biology seems predispositioned towards a relatively short life span.   They don’t entirely retain memories, especially past a single generation, resulting in them developing unique personalities, and still requiring some education. This both causes Nivlacs to achieve individuality, while making Nivlac family units and their understanding of individuals and ancestry to be somewhat unique.
