Mavaas Sazhuul

"Beautiful Shadow" in the Akhaale language. A dazzling O-class star and two planetary bodies. One of them is small and on the very edge of the large star's gravitational influence. As a result, it's covered in kilometers of water ice, and below all of it is mostly common minerals. It seems even more boring than most icy planets, although there is a very faint out-of-place topographical reading on a tiny spec of the planet's surface. Contrary to that relatively boring planet, however, is what was causing interesting sensor readings for the Zhurite.   The other planet. Sensor readings seem to either fail to succeed or return very fuzzily, which made it trouble to notice the planet's existence at all. Upon optical inspection, the entire planet seems to blend in with the pure blackness of space behind it, and its edges especially fade into nothingness. Even closer inspection reveals that the planet's surface is almost completely covered in vast deposits of a mysterious crystal that seemingly infinitely absorbs all electromagnetic waves that hit it, whether it be powerful cosmic rays, simple visible light, or harmless radio waves.   Once the nature of the planet is revealed, it's figured out to be approximately the same size as Zhuur , and just outside the star's habitable zone. If it ever did have a magnetic core, it didn't anymore, and it was constantly bombarded by the full force of the star's radiation, although the mysterious crystals flawlessly absorbed all of it, keeping the planet's temperature cold, far below freezing for most elements.   It's unclear where all the energy that the crystals absorb goes, since none of it bounces off and the crystals never heat up or emanate heat. Inspection done by drilling through the crystal layer reveals that it varies in depth, but is a few meters deep on average. Additionally, the nature of its mysterious perfect energy absorption is revealed to actually be the product of its unique crystalline structure that actually bends all EM waves inward perfectly, redirecting all the waves into the ground beneath it. From one side, it absorbs all light, making it the purest black, but from the other side, it's basically invisible. In essence, it's a crystal that behaves like the ultimate one-way window, which could have many interesting scientific uses, especially in the field of optics. And, since it coats the entire planet, it won't run out for a very long time.   Beneath the crystal layer is a regular rocky planet which would normally have had at least some defining features had it not been for the very flat crystal layer above it.
