Pax Familia

Pax Familia arose through the brutal underbelly of the Core Systems. Decades ago, the Pax Familia was merely just another mob on Mystra. However, veterans returning from Tu'Kor were bringing back all kinds of narcotics like Spice, illegal Medi-Gel and Slo-Mo.   They soon began to corner the market, using the profits to flood their ranks with guns and to bribe the local authorities to look the other way. The gang wars that broke out in the lower levels lasted years, and led to the Family coming out on top. Pax Familia soon started making contacts with the Hydra Syndicate and Zym Cartels. It is even rumored the Families works with corrupt Colonial Security Bureau officers. Pax Familia took over the majority of Mystra, and soon their expansion began to encompass the entire Core. They usually buy out the competition, and now operate as a semi-legal syndicate of oligarchs and power brokers. Many operate in a legal grey area, shielding them from most imperial jurisdictions.   However, when they are threatened on their own territory, the Family musters in force. They have a vast array of arms, thanks of course to imperial surplus. They also have a wide array of highly paid, ex-military muscle that has experience fighting in the mid-rim. Each year they rake in trillions of credits, having expanded their crime network to whole new venues like illegal casinos, protection rackets, and even in their own production of Rust. They have been known to donate great amounts to Blueforce Division, who in turn take extra care to target rival crime bosses in the Mid Rim, where the influence of the Family is smaller.

Structure

Pax Familia is less of a centralized organization, and moreso a loose confederation of various families, crews or clans (though despite the name, members are usually not blood related). Each of these families lays claim to a piece of territory, whether it be a neighborhood, a space station, city or even entire systems. They rarely have a monopoly of violence, and exist under the already established authorities.    Full members must be Solar and from the Core Systems, however they have no problem associating with all manner of people. The Mob utilizes various comissions to handle inter-family disputes, though it is regular these conflicts come to blows and violence.   These comissions hold very little real authority, and are merely a vessel to help unify Pax Familia in the face of a greater enemy. It is meant to keep the violence between families contained, and focused on outside criminal factions that encoach on their territory. It also helps establish what happens to families once their local boss dies or is ousted.    The individual families operates on a strict hierarchical structure. At the very top are the bosses, who appoint an underboss, and several consulars. Captains answer to the boss and are tasked with the day-to-day rackets and operation of the family's territory. Soldiers are the lowest ranking actual members of the Pax Familia, and they work under the captains.    Associates are technically not members of the family, but work for them nonetheless. Their tasks can range from running entire rackets, similar to captains to simply being an errand runner. Solar associates can be made into soldiers by reccomendation from existing members.
