As a child Kelly wanted to be a hero like her father but quickly learned that her father wasn't really a hero, he just killed who he was supposed to and listened to who he was supposed to. She found real strength came in the form of Gekinoo who led a protest against Ahriman and was able to stop his plan by the support of the people. She went to school after that so she could become a scholar like Gekinoo. Learning from him and his followers unfortunately they were arrested and their teachings banned but Kelly and her friends formed a secret after school club to continue learning about Juche. She met Thabit at school however the two didn't know each other well and one day he was gone (Odakota thing). Her and her friends became the target of bullies because they were still studying Juche, the bullies would have their meetings raided by police who would destroy any literature they had but when the bullies found out they weren't being punished they took to kidnapping and engraving "traitor" on their foreheads along with brutally crippling them. The bullies did it to Masika who ended up committing suicide over it and when they got to Kelly; she was able to break free from them, kick the knife out of Aiyana's hand then killed them with it. She buried the bodies in the school garden and planted a tree sapling for each of them giving a life for each she took to preserve her karma.
Kelly felt no remorse for killing those bullies and felt it was necessary to stop their evil from continuing. That was when she learnt that killing the right people wasn't wrong
At the start of the show she is really young and impressionable, the above hasn't happened yet. She just wants to be a hero, she sees things as black and white and doesn't understand that there are multiple viewpoints to conflict
She has heard stories of her dad's heroics and seen people's faces light up when they see him, the parades held in his honour. She wants to be someone that everyone adores just like him.
