Sykoss
The Sykoss Barbarian tribe of the Pandoran Mountains are by far one of the most terrifying cultures among all the mortal races, second only perhaps to the Nebuchar. Sykoss are loosely Human but they do not increase their numbers through traditional courting and reproduction. Instead, Sykoss kidnap promising travelers and strangers and subject them to horrifying rituals combining alchemical reagents, dark magic and psychosis inducing bouts of trauma. The end result, if the subject survives, is another jabbering, cannibalistic, sadistic and masochistic Sykoss tribe member.
The Sykoss thrive on banditry, producing almost nothing but their iconic and disturbing ritual masks. Sykoss raiding parties make their way down the mountains by way of secret routes before falling on neighboring communities, stealing or destroying nearly everything. Sykoss are also enthusiastic cannibals, preferring mortal species even over traditional livestock and butchered meat.
The only reason the Sykoss haven't been wiped out is that the neighboring Slab and Scarlet tribes have been able to rein them in through threat of force. This has result in gradually decreased numbers of Sykoss tribespeople. A recent imbalance in power caused by The Theia Commerce Group briefly elevated the Sykoss to a new and horrifying peak but the situation was quickly relieved when the Group was driven from the mountains.
