The Light Bringer Desmond Truemane Everett (a.k.a. The Blade of Morthal)


Desmond Everett is the Inheritor of Ernam's Nephilim power from the Everett family line, although it was a illegitimate means of succession. Desmond spends most of his time going around to world, trying his best to avoid his family, and help others in the process, after his affair with the Angel, Armaros came to light, most Everett's saw him as a disgrace for not following the rules that their ancestors had set up to give all Everett's a chance at being chosen for the power.   Desmond Everett was a man who had always tried to do the right thing. He was the inheritor of a powerful Nephilim ability from the Everett family line, but he had never felt entirely comfortable with the responsibility. He had always known that the power came with a price, but he had never expected to pay it so dearly. After the loss of his daughter, Sornen, Desmond was consumed by grief. He blamed himself for not being able to protect her, and he struggled to come to terms with the fact that she was gone. He isolated himself from his family and friends, and spent most of his time wandering the world alone.   As time passed, Desmond began to realize that he could not go on living in the past. He decided to use his Nephilim power to help others, and to honor his daughter's memory by doing good in the world. He began to travel from place to place, using his ability to heal the sick and injured, and to protect the innocent from harm.   Desmond's newfound sense of purpose helped to ease the pain of his loss, and he gradually began to rebuild his life. He still thought of Sornen every day, and he knew that he would never forget her, but he was able to find some measure of peace and happiness in his new mission.

Light Bringer: Desmond's Legendary blade is a +3 longsword that deals an extra 2d6 radiant damage. On a critical hit, the target must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or be blinded for 1 minute.   Celestial Aura: As a bonus action, Desmond can radiate a celestial aura in a 30-ft radius. Hostile creatures with the aura must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute.   Fiendish Resilience: Desmond can use his action to regain 30 hit points. He can't use this feature again until he finishes a long rest.

Actions

Multiattack: Desmond makes three attacks with Light Bringer   Light Bringer: Makes Weapon Attack: +12 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (3d8 + 5) radiant damage and 17 (2d6 + 5) fire damage on a hit.   Smite Evil: Spends a bonus action to imbue Light Bringer with divine energy, adding 1d8 radiant damage to the next attack.   Fiendish Smite: Spend a bonus action to imbue Light Bringer with fiendish energy, adding 1d8 necrotic damage to the next attack.   Celestial Healing: Use a bonus action to restore 2d8 hit points to yourself or an ally within 5 feet.   Fiendish Taunt: Use an action to incite a creature within 30 feet to attack you, imposing disadvantage on their attack roll against any target other than you.   Recall Sword: As an action, Desmond can cause Light Bringer to teleport from wherever it is to his hand.

Legendary Actions

Legendary Resistance (3/day): If Desmond fails a saving throw, he can choose to succeed instead.   Divine Sight (1/day): Desmond can see the true form of any creature, regardless of any disguises or magical effects.   Light Bringer (1/day): Lightbringer has the ability to banish fiends and undead back to their home plane on a successful hit. It can be thrown up to 30 feet and will magically return to Desmond's hand at the end of his turn.

Personal history

Desmond has a hatred for his father, Erdum Everett, as during his time with him, Desmond was only a tool to be used by him. Erdum Everett made a pact with the Warlock Vila Truemane, and had a son, this pact forced this child to inherit the power of Ernam, instead of how it would normally work, in which the power would simply go to an Everett it deemed worthy, it was forced upon Desmond. Desmond also shows contempt toward his mother, Vila Truemane, however he shows more toward his father.

History

Many, many years after leaving the Everett Family Hold and going out on his own, Desmond found himself in a Tavern, and after many, many, many drinks, he found himself inebriated at a table all by himself. After some time, a woman approached his table, looking to be a human woman, who was concerned for his safety, as he was leaning so far back he was about to fall. The woman took to a room she payed for and lead him over to a bed, she took her opportunity while he was inebriated to attempt to seduce him. Desmond, even while being very, very drunk saw through her advances and summoned Lightbringer to his hand, he had no intention of getting with this woman. The Woman backed up and revealed herself to be The Archdevil of Treason, Sozreth, She then went on to make Desmond a deal, she knew that he secretly hated his power and the Everett Family's obsession with it, so she would bear him a child that he would allowed to see every 10 years, and IT would take that power. Desmond, desperate, drunk and deceived, agreed to these terms.
