Skari Vardr

Godsworn Skari Vardr

Skari Vardr, son of the northern bloodline known as the Watchers, once bore the mantle of the Godsworn, a title spoken with awe and suspicion alike. Now he wanders as a bard, spinning songs of distant wars and half-remembered truths. Beneath the flourish of verse and the gleam of a blade, something quieter lingers, a need to be remembered.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Skari stands at 5'7", compact and powerfully built. Though not towering, he carries himself with the presence of someone far larger, his movements balanced between a soldier’s discipline and a Skald’s grace.

Apparel & Accessories

Skari wields Sannlín, a moonlit-blue blade etched in ancient runes that hum with the rhythm of forgotten songs. Its worn leather hilt fits like a memory in the hand. Skalds say Sannlín doesn’t just cut — it weaves fate, guiding its wielder toward the true thread hidden in every tale.

At Skari’s waist rests a dual-sheathed harness, forged in blackened steel and engraved with the symbol of the Godsworn: two ravens, wings curved to form an eternal loop. When twin runic blades are set within, faint light pulses through the etchings—each raven illuminated by the dormant power of its weapon. Sannlín rests there now alongside a mundane bronze sword, and so only one raven glows, leaving the symbol incomplete. Whether by design or loss, none can say.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born on the fringes of Bjornheimer lands in the village of Fjallby, Skari grew up with songs of valor in his ears and dreams of glory in his heart. He left home young to join the war efforts, where his courage and conviction carried him through the ranks. In time, he earned a place among the Godsworn — the elite of the elite — but glory has its price. Unfortunately, it didn't seem like the world was in need of heroes at this time, and the work simply became doing the dirty work of this or that Jarl. Skari resigned to becoming a wandering skald and mercenary hoping to find the next heroic story for his journey.

Mental Trauma

Skari keeps the events that led him to leave the Godsworn close to his chest, speaking of them only in vague terms. While outwardly confident, there are moments when the past — battles fought, comrades lost, and difficult choices made — weighs on him. His bravado masks deeper scars, and he rarely reveals the truths buried within. The only certainty is that the soldier he once was no longer exists, and he now walks a path shaped by the stories he tells and the legend he’s trying to become.

Morality & Philosophy

Skari believes that legends shape the world more than laws or gods ever could. To him, heroism isn’t about rigid codes — it’s about the weight of your deeds and the echo they leave behind. Courage, beauty, and sacrifice matter more than cold truth or blind justice. He doesn’t follow rules so much as rhythm — instinct, story, and the quiet pull of something greater. Deep down, he wants to become the kind of tale that outlives doubt and failure — a name that survives in song, even if the world forgets the man behind it.

The Storm of Oaths? It's what happens when belief sharpens into blade. When faith stops asking questions and starts making demands. Once thought it was glory, now I think it’s tragedy wearing a holy crown.”

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Skari is driven by the need to become the legend he tells. He wanders the land as a Skald and mercenary, spinning tales of glory not just to inspire others, but to convince himself they’re true. If he can be remembered as a hero, maybe he was one all along.

Religious Views

Skari was once Godsworn, and still bears that title with pride — or at least, with the weight it carries. In his youth, the oath felt like destiny fulfilled. Wodyn, the god of wisdom, war, sacrifice, and stories, was an ideal he could live into. But as the years and battles wore on, and as cracks began to form in the myths he once held sacred, Skari’s devotion took on a different shade.

Now, he treats Wodyn less as a father and more as a mirror — a god he admires, fears, questions, and sometimes curses. He still whispers old prayers before battle, still carves runes in the dirt when lost, still believes in omens and portents, but his faith is now wrapped in performance, memory, and myth-making.

To others, he might seem devout. But to Skari, the gods are stories too. Real, yes. Sacred, yes. But stories all the same. And if stories can be shaped, so too can destiny.

Young Skald from a northern clan who rose to become Godsworn but left that life behind for the pursuit of new heroic stories.
