Argynvost
The founder of the Order of the Silver Chain and is the namesake of the Creed of Argynvost. It was discovered by Oscar Moreau that he was an ancient silver dragon who first came to Felize in the guise of a noble warrior. He used his wealth and resources to attract other champions of good, and valorous knights flocked to join the cause. He subsequently founded the Order of the Silver Chain, with the patronage of Sir Horngaard Moreau and Sir Godfrey Gwilym. The Order drove away the forces of evil and dangerous monstrosities from the borders of Felize, but were hounded by the mysterious Vampire Lord "S" and provided refuge to those who were displaced by his conquests. Argynvost had heard of a place called the Amber Temple -- a repository of evil power guarded by the forces of good, after pushing further into Barovia to pursue "S". The Order wanted to make sure that the evil sealed there wouldn't be allowed to escape, so he built a fortified mansion close by: Argynvostholt. The initial push saw much success, as they found more vampiric strongholds and flushed them out into the daylight, but the early victories were soon eclipsed, as Strahd Von Zarovich became involved and his superior numbers overwhelmed Argynvost and his knights. Once they were destroyed, the dragon was hacked to pieces and Argynvostholt became haunted by the revenant ghosts of the former knights.
When the party arrived they found Sir Horngaard Moreau, the leader of the knights, angered in undeath but determined to destroy Strahd. It was with the help of his husband, the revenant Sir Godfrey Gwilym, that the party prevailed in defeating the grief-maddened knight, and returned Argynvost's skull to the Order. The party was then able to restore the skull of Argynvost to his revenant form, and the ghosts of his order were able to go to rest after Strahd was destroyed in the Battle of Vallaki.

Personal history
Argynvost is a boisterous and haughty warrior, always exalting the deeds of his allies and cursing his enemies. He sees the world in pure Black & White moral terms, finding no issue with destroying those he considers evil, and protecting those he considers innocent or good. His moral compass is largely what guides the philosophy of the modern day Order of the Silver Chain, but some members have difficulty adhering to such a strict and absolute classification of so-called monsters.
