Oscar Moreau
Oscar is a member of the Moreau family and thus the Order of the Silver Chain. He is blamed for an incident that resulted in the death of his Aunt Noel. His subsequent failure to "purify" his newly-turned family member brought him great shame and dishonor, and was in direct violation of the Creed of Argynvost. He ultimately blames the mysterious "S" (now revealed to be the powerful Sorin), an evil that has brought death to Moreau and the Order for ages. He vows to reap revenge by killing Sorin and regain a place of honor within the order.
Because of his dishonor he has been semi-banished from the Duchy for years while he searches for the most deadly mark.
Personal History
Early Life
Like most members of the Moreau family, Oscar was trained from a young age to become a hunter and take on the Creed of Argynvost. Unlike most members of the Moreau family however, his branch of the family was the most powerful in the Dutchy. His father Lord Steward Fritz Moreau; his uncle the Duke Felix Moreau, Lord of the Duchy Moreau; and his mother Theodora, the Grand Forgeron to the Order of the Silver Chain. The status of his immediate family placed high expectations on Oscar, who often rebelled against the formalities. Fritz and Felix were famously close brothers entwined by blood, politics, and creed. Felix inherited his position as Duke from a young age and the two brothers guided the family and Order through a dark period. The closeness of their fathers brought Oscar close with his cousin Gustav Moreau and they quickly formed a deep bond. Indeed the two eventually came to view each other as brothers. This is partially due to Oscar's mother being an elf who's aloof nature was off-putting to the young boy and was the Grand Forgeron to the Order of the Silver Chain. This position was one of great honor and importance but often took her from home for long periods of time, sometimes months to years, as she sought out dangerous and powerful weapons and artifacts with which to arm the order. In her absence his aunt, Noel, became like a mother to him and further cemented his growing brotherly relationship with Gustav.Young Adulthood and the Order of the Silver Chain
Oscar excelled with his training yet often clashed with his tutors. He rebelled against the strict training and rules demanded by the Creed. By this point, the Order of the Silver Chain was a shadow of what it once was and had been dominated by the Moreau family for decades. The family was large, but what once was counted in the hundreds or thousands was then being counted in the dozens or scores. The Order had adapted by pairing teenage members in training with established hunters. During these apprenticeships the student would accompany their master through the course of their duties and fight alongside them. Oscars's master came to be Johan Ries, an unconventional but fitting choice given his similar aversion to the more conservative parts of the Order. Johan was known as a firebrand warrior-scholar and was once considered for the position of Grand Forgeron to the Chain, but was passed over for Theodora for political reasons. While a young hunter Oscar is fighting a pack of werewolves with a group of hunters led by Noel Sr. Through the course of this endeavor Noel is unknowingly(?) cursed to become a Lycan herself. At some point later Oscar finds Noel as she first turns, pleading for Oscar to save her. The Creed is adamant that any turned member of the chain should be cleansed but Oscar cannot bring himself to harm his adoptive mother. She either ultimately escapes and is presumed dead or is actually dead after being found, chased, and killed by others of the Chain. This brings him great dishonor and semi-banishment from the order unless he can bring justice to the family by killing "S" the same person who has been responsible for the orders dwindling numbers over the course of hundreds of years of cold and hot war between the order/family and the "forces of darkness"
