Service

What is Service?

Service is a ritual performed by every member of Sanctuary on a daily basis. It is called Service because the acts which are performed as part of it are considered as both a service to the community within the Tower of Solace, but also services the soul of the person performing them.

Service to the Community

The acts which are performed as part of Service are all beneficial to the smooth running of Sanctuary. The community is predominantly self-sufficient, and these acts are part of that.

Service to the Self

It is a well-known fact that acts such as manual labour exhaust the body and allow the mind to focus on how one can improve one's self. It allows self-contemplation.

Levels of Service

There are as many levels of Service as there are levels within the organisation. They can be broken down into four main groups; the parent, older sibilings, sibling and cousin.   Levels of Service refer not only to how much control someone has over their choice in the type of service but also how many hours of Service a day are expected as a minimum.

Partaking in Service

Service is performed daily by all members of Sanctuary. It is planned out the day before by the person or people who undertook the act of Overseeing Service. Before going to sleep, every member checks their allocation for the following day, so that they know what time they need to rise.   For siblings and cousins, as they have a minimum of 12 hours of daily Service to complete, they may have multiple types of Service allocated to them, or multiple jobs within a certain type of Service.   Different acts take place at different times and in different parts of the Tower of Solace. Throughout the day, the person or people undertaking the act of Overseeing Service monitor and record the Service which is taking place. These records include details not only of who does what, when and for how long, but also a score of how the individual is performing along with additional notes around how they can improve. These records are available for everyone to study during their free time.   It is also at this stage that siblings may voice their preferences as to the sort of Service they wish to do. It's up to those Overseeing Service as to how closely these preferences are followed.

Voluntary Service

The hours allotted to each person depend on their level within Sanctuary and are seen as a minimum. It is encouraged that siblings volunteer some of their free time to partake in additional service. Those who do regularly are rewarded with special mentions by the parent and are in a good position to rise through the levels to older sibilings.
