The Anisi Bloc

I'm used to heat, being born in Xa'uatal. Hells, some days it felt like we had to swim through the air instead of walk. Anisi, though? Is a dry and arid place. The ground cracks under the brutal sun, and rivers and lakes struggle to maintain their body. I'm just glad that traditional clothing there is light...and sheer. Don't tell my wife I said that. Seriously. Say nothing.
- Atezka Tlali, spoken during an impromptu interview

Structure

The Zonkizizwe, a form of tribal council is the highest authority in the country, though they don't often meet unless it is absolutely necessary. Each tribe provides a representative, while the rest of the tribe controls and directs their tribal lands. Many tribes have sub-tribes as well, created through marriage and distant relations, which are often used for more specific tasks and operations. These tribes also have representation, but their ties to their parent tribe are plain for all to see.

History

Much like other tribal nations of the known world, the Anisi have struggled to maintain their cultural heritage while trying to stay in lockstep with the technology curve. During the Age of Titans, the first of the tribes that would eventually form the Anisi Bloc started to form. Nomadic groups of the Gatisiwa Savannah started to come together, forming the initial tribes, some of which still exist to this day. Namely the Lion Tribe, the Gorilla Tribe, and the Spider Tribe. As they congregated, more tribes formed as the advantages of a communal living situation, and of course, the protection of a god became widespread knowledge.   The pantheon of Anisi is animalistic in nature, as one might deduce from the naming conventions of each tribe, each one taking on the form of one of the native creatures of the savannah. The first and foremost of those gods, Mcebo the Lion, saught to unite his sibling gods. Under his rule, of course. First, he directed his followers towards his closest relation, Dumile, the Lioness. A goddess known for her martial prowess. A straightforward god, Mcebo challenged her to a duel. Meeting in a pool of water, the two gods stripped their clothing, and while their followers clashed around them, they tested their claws against one another. the battle raged until the sun appeared on the horizon, neither god could get the upper hand. and finally, as the sun crested the horizon, each one thought that they could get the upper hand with one final gamble.   Splashing the water at each other, they attempted to reflect the new day's light into a distraction, and both struck through their aquatic smokescreens, and found purchase in their opponent. They each struck the other's eye, half blinding themselves in their similarity. While Mcebo's crusade against the other gods ended there, it was only because it became the crusade of the Tribe of Lions. Bonding over their duel, the lion and lioness found themselves growing closer, eventually coming together as husband and wife.   Over the following centuries, the tribes were united, many by force, others by common cause and tests of wit and intelligence. Sometimes setbacks would happen and the collection would splinter or split apart for a time, but without exception, they would always come back together. After all, the savannah is a hard place to live at the best of times, let alone when the tribes are at each other's throats. One might think that such a founding, one built from blood and trickery, would leave their alliance unstable. In most cases, one would be right. However, the Anisi Bloc has been completely stable for the last 200 years, with its component tribes having long since forgotten or given up the grudges that formed over several centuries of attempted unification. The savannah sun has a habit of beating grudges out of you.   This rough and splintering beginning even turned into a strength when the Realmshatter arrived. As they had not homogenized as a people, the scattering of tribes that occurred during the worldly upheaval did not completely reset Mcebos' efforts. While they tribes were split apart, those that found themselves together banded together. Keeping themselves alive and avoiding bashing their own brains out. The tribes that landed alone, were not perturbed, as they new exactly what was needed of them to survive. After all, the had all done so on their own before.    Since the unification of the Anisi Bloc (named for the largest river in the country), they have developed good trade relations with their neighbors of Theske and the Djinn Sultanate, though they have made it clear they will not tolerate any disrespect from the two nations. On a worldwide scale, they are known as one of the first nations to be entirely power self-sufficient, with the Mnsedici Dam providing enough power to keep the lights on in every connected village. Some have argued that point, however, saying that such a statement isn't truly accurate, as villages and towns that are too far away or are too hard to get to are not connected and thus not included in the power consumption of the nation. Whether these nay-sayers are simply being pedantic or pointing out a valid loophole in the statement has yet to come to any sort of consensus.

Education

Education is held in high regard but seen as a secondary objective. Most academic institutions are geared towards the arcane, and many of those institutions are homed in Mithnoni.

Infrastructure

Anisi is slightly behind in infrastructure, but they are working hard to catch up. Roads have been constructed for the past few years, but it is slow going with the dangers of the savannah and dessert. There are, however, facilities for teleportation in several places throughout the country for when things absolutely need to get from one place to another.
