The Realmshatter and it's after effects

If there was one event in all of history that mattered, it's the Realmshatter.

Three-thousand years ago, several planes neighboring ours collapsed inwards and melded together. Well, melded is the wrong word. Too soft. It was more like were ground together. Their own natural laws attempted to assert themselves over each other, re-shaping the surface of the planet and destroying and reforming whole ecosystems. We still cannot catalog the exact amount of planes that were affected by this event, as we keep discovering evidence of more and more of them with each passing year.

This begs the question of 'what all was left behind, then?', which again I have to answer with uncertainty. Entire species, cities, magical and physical laws, gods, and monsters. To try and inventory all of what would have been considered 'otherworldly' before the Relmshatter, is a fools errand at this point and we might as well just accept things the way that they are.

Now, the more astute readers might have already thought up the question 'why did it happen in the first place?'. While the previous question was answered partially, this one has no answer. Everything that you or I could say about the Realmshatter's cause is entirely conjecture and you have just as likely a chance to be correct as I do. A few working theories have cropped up over the years, such as the 'the fabric between the realms involved was unnaturally thin'. Or the popular 'A being of immense size and power tore it's way through, accidentally causing the neighboring realms to collapse'. Or perhaps the more theatrical, 'An ancient artifact(s) that protected the realms failed, but came back up before more damage could be done'. Whatever theory you subscribe to, the truth remains the same.

We know nothing about the Realmshatter.
