Marchitecture in Slumbering Gods | World Anvil

Marchitecture

Domestic/Care/Play/Marriage

I walk into my friend's house and take in the rough wood, the piney smell, and the mermaid figurine on the counter. The murals on the wall varied between strange, confusing, and random. But it had a homey feel that I loved. With the soft golden light coming in from the windows, and the warm fire in the gathering room. A heavenly smell wafting in from the kitchen, and the quiet laughter bouncing through the halls.

I could almost imagine having a home like this. A place always so full of life. Happiness. Love. I could almost see my boys chasing each other down the halls, my husband shouting at them to keep it down, while he watched the game.

I could almost see myself in the kitchen cooking, and having my sweet little girl asking if she could help. And I smile giving her a spoon to stir the cake batter.

It's a shame that can never happen. What with the curse and all.

  Community/Vacation

I live in a beach house. Just like everyone else down by the sea. It's a great place to live. Really. We've got wide open views. Large backyards. Crazed Sea stars. You can't get a better place than this.

We might all have separate beach houses. Each fitted and perfectly made for us, whether we want a wrap around porch, a balcony, or a bay window, (and I'm sure there's one here for you too) the houses are more than just places to sleep. They are places to gather together. To laugh and talk. To sing and dance.

I'm sure one day you'll join us. And don't worry about the sand, we have brooms to sweep that away. And just ignore the stray crabs that sneak in every now and again. They don't bite.

  Asylum/Prisoner

All you must simply do is head up that thin and slightly narrow road, up to the left, then to the right, and maybe go straight, but I can’t remember if there’s a T-intersection….

Oh, well, you’ll find The Sanatorium eventually. And you can’t really miss it. Big gray thing carved straight out of the rock of the mountain. It’s got these large metal doors with bolts on the outside. Which makes you wonder how people get out….

But anyways, it’s just right there, up the small path and take a right, or left. Something like that. Just don’t make any weird turns. Like don’t go down. Just look for a building with these large black towers with jagged spikes, but don’t worry about those. They won’t shoot at you, since no one can even get into those towers. Just knock the metal doors, and I guess they’ll open.

Even though it can only be open from the outside.

Okay, good luck. And just remember to go straight when you reach the T-intersection.

  Gird/Complex/Plaza/Multi-family/Historical

I live by the plaza, a large place that’s made for thousands of people to pass through daily, but that was in the past. I’m just a living piece of history. I live on Trickster’s Bluff. With my family, extended family, my Aunt Lira, who isn’t my real Aunt Lira (she died of laughing), and my cousin Scooter (who is thankfully not my real cousin).

I’ve had an apartment of my own since I was eighteen, and I could not have been happier, if I didn’t live under Uncle Sam, who insists on keeping me up at night, banging on the walls, shouting about “Equality. Equality. Equal wages for everyone!”

I wanted to move next to cousin Leo, who is amazing. He can fix anything. (He can also break anything, but then he just fixes it again, so I think it’s fine). Sadly, no, my mom had other ideas in mind. Something about a curse, and keeping me safe. And I think she mentioned Death. (The person).

But if you ever do wish to visit me on Trickster’s Bluff, look for my apartment complex. It shouldn’t be hard to find. What with the cable lines, magic lines, equatorial lines, fleece lines, line lines. Everything on your grid points to us.

That’s why I’m a living piece of history.

  Exercise/Worship/Sanitation/Sanctuary/Podium

Yes! Welcome! This is a place where the lords will meet us. A place where you shall be cleansed of your wrong doing. Come, and be cleaned by grace. Come, and be blessed by mercy.

Yes! This is a place for everyone. No one is turned away. And every one is accepted. Please, don’t feel intimidated. Our walls may be high. And our towers may be steep, but our doors are always opened.

Welcome, believers. This is where you can exercise your faith. Worship your god. This is a place of protection. A place where you will be free to speak to your god. A place where you may learn of his will for you.

I preach at the podium. And I preach every will of every god. So, as I stand on this stage. I welcome you, kind sir. You, darling girl. You, sweet woman. You daring gentleman. You gracious madam. And you, smart boy.

I welcome each and every one of you to my home. Where the candle light is home. The fire is warm. The food is delicious. And where the gods will smile on you.

  Ruined/Gathering/Exchange/Storage

No one’s allowed to go there. Even if they are just ruins. They say there were gatherings held there. And not the good kind. Where “exchanges” took place, but that’s what the history books say. And you can’t trust history books.

Victor write history. Losers are forgotten and cast to the side.

But that’s beside the point. All you need to know is that it’s a dangerous place. Where monsters lurk on the shadows. Tormented gods who abduct anyone with a chance of freeing them.

But, don’t worry, I know why you want to go there in the first place. The power. The power of the gods is said to be there. Stored in various places among the ruins. But if you wish to go tho those ruined buildings. Just be warned.

There’s a monster in those buildings.

And he doesn’t take prisoners.

  Mobile/Transportation/Production/Temporary

Come and get it! That’s right. A moving building. That’s right. Bet you’ve never seen that before. Don’t lie. You’ve never seen a moving building. And not only does it move, but it creates.

What, you might ask? Well, the answer. Whatever you want. Do you have holes in your socks. Enter the building, give your request. Walk through the house. And come out the other side, with no holes in your socks.

It’s a genius invention. And don’t doubt us. We can prove it. And please, don’t think that this moving building of production can only mend socks. It is made for so much more than that.

Need another house. Built. Need another tool. Built. (Need some money? Done.) And the best part. You can live in it. That’s right. YOU!

All you need is about $50,000. Now does that seem like a lot? Well, it’s worth it, when you realize, you don’t have to fix anything. The building can build it for you. Nearly even fix it for you.

And please, don’t doubt us. It’s really not too good to be true.

And don’t worry. There is no fine print. Trust me when I say, you get what you buy.

  Viewpoint/Spectator/Education

It’s really a great view. I can just sit on my balcony and watch the tournament. My team isn’t winning, sadly. But it’s a great game. I see the judges, the players. It’s all about speed. How fast can you answer? How fast can you ring your bell?

But like everything, it’s so much more than speed. It’s about brain power. When do you answer. When do you ring the bell. Each question is worth different points. And the players don’t know how many points a question is worth.

It’s a very interesting game that’s playing as I watch from my house. The wind blows through my hair, shaking the vines along the wall of my house.

I sigh, as my team falls further and further behind. I’m disappointed in them.

It really is a shame there are consequences for everything done wrong.

And I’m afraid my team won’t like the consequences.
