Gardeners of Jainonn

Gardeners of Jainonn (Translated from Trall) is the primary Trallyr faction consisting of the majority of the Trallyr population. While those that still reside in the Trallyr's tree stations or live on or near the planet Jainonn make up most of the faction, many citizens can be found within local alliance and other foreign territories as diplomats, explorers, or tourists as they await the completion of Jainonn's terraformation. The Gardeners of Jainonn work hard to bring their long migration to a close by transforming their planet into a place that the Trallyr people can call their new home. Until this is accomplished, protecting and completing their home planet sits at the forefront of their leaders' priorities.

Government and Policy

When the gardeners were still traveling in their ships, they were each led by a council of three leaders: a Sage, the spiritual and cultural leader; a Captain, the leader focused on the health and safety of the ship; and a Governor, the leader with the most political background. Since landing, the Captain has been replaced with the Developer: a role focused on guiding and facilitating terraformation efforts. The Captains of the ships still manage the ships' operations, but only for so long as the ships are required for their operations.   Today, a single council of three guides this faction. Listed below are their names and some of their domains of responsibility.   The Grand Sage: Zulula Angra-Siv-Das
Leader in matters of Traditions, Holidays, Family, and Religion   The Grand Developer: Oara Zreek-Dranna-Solk
Leader in matters of City Planning, Terraformation, Land Assignment, and Ecology   The Grand Governer: Ixolka Oroi-Iranja-Halzei
Leader in matters of Law, International Diplomacy, Economics, and Defense   While the leader on a particular issue generally has the full authority to act on it, the other two may challenge them or revoke their decision if agreed on in unison. Council members are typically appointed by their predecessors, but can be voted out of their position by the general population.

Law Enforcement

Given their love of rules and regulation, it's no surprise that the Trallyr of the Gardeners are equally eager to enforce those rules. While they shy away from capital punishment, the different ways they enforce regulations and punish lawbreakers is as varied and specific as the laws themselves. For any given infraction there is a carefully selected and strictly enforced reaction by the official peacekeepers.   For lighter matters such as petty theft and vandalism, community service is a popular response. For crimes of more violent natures, long jail sentences are almost guaranteed. Some get into oddly specific territory, for example: the punishment for the crime of falsifying one's feather color is to have the feathers in the middle of their neck shaven away in a bare ring.   Things that are more of a cultural mandate instead of an overt law are not enforced via punishment, however. Activities such as joining cultural festival committees or completing the Hometree rite of passage are instead heavily incentivized. For example, those trallyr that follow their traditional customs are rewarded with impressive economic and societal benefits (Like tax breaks, access to certain stores, or the ability to join certain clubs) that are simply not made available to those who resist. Due to this, those who follow closely to the cultural norms of the Gardeners' society live noticeably easier lives.   Some notable laws followed among the Gardeners are listed below:
  • One must not kill or harm the creatures being brought to Jainonn's surface, even in self defense
  • One must get approval from their local cultural office to start a family
  • One may not dye their feathers in order to mislead others
  • One may not leave the orbit of Jainonn without permission from relevant authorities
  • All children must go through relevant career education
  • Some incentivized cultural mandates include:
  • Participation in local religious groups
  • Participation in cultural festivals, whether volunteering or simply attending
  • Starting a family (With approval)

    Demographics

The Gardeners of Jainonn consists of solely Trallyr. Before its split with the Starwander Society it contained the entirety of the Trallyr species, and still holds the majority of individuals today. In order to ensure there is a healthy population to settle the planet, the Gardeners are very reluctant to allow their citizens to leave and join other factions (though they make exceptions for the Local Alliance) and do not accept other species into their ranks. A Trallyr goes through many stages of intense bureaucratic approval before being allowed to leave the Gardeners. Trallyr born outside of gardener society are easily welcomed back into the fold.

    Culture

The culture of the Gardeners reflects the overall culture of the Trallyr in its purest form. All of the cultural aspects detailed in the Trallyr article are present strongly among the Gardeners. This includes traditions such as Chroma Casting, arranged marriage, and a deep appreciation and respect for nature. (Since waning feelings of closeness with the natural world were a factor in their split with the Starwanderers, current day authority strives to foster this natural aspect of their culture in the new generation.) The Chroma casting in particular is at its strongest in this faction. Almost no leniency is afforded to Trallyr who cannot succeed in the jobs of their color.   The Trallyr of the Gardeners have varied feelings about their new interstellar neighbors. While many among the common population see the sudden expansion of their galactic neighborhood as an exciting time and greatly enjoy visiting and socializing with other species, many more among their leadership and elders feel differently. Jainonn's ecosystem is still fragile and the other galactic powers could very easily pose a threat to their people's new home. Bringing the planet's climate to a point where the old hometrees can be planted takes time, but that time is nothing compared to how long it will take any sector of newly planted forest to grow to a size suitable for settlements. Many of the tree stations still orbit above the planet, with only a couple having made their landings on its surface. Plans have been set in motion to construct artificial hometrees on the planet's surface while time passes for new ones to grow, but much of the Trallyr population finds the idea unappealing.   Values promoted officially by Gardener leadership include:
  • Family
  • Integrity
  • Faith
  • Community
  • Belonging
  • Order
  • Tradition
  •

    Peacemakers

As a species, the Trallyr are generally pacifistic. They are herbivores and have lived in carefully maintained peace in space for generations. The founding gardeners were made keenly aware that they are the outlier in this regard and were the ones to spearhead the Interplanetary Alliance and champion galactic peace. To newcomers like the Humans and Chi'Suut their task may seem noble and altruistic, but it's not hard to find those who believe the Gardeners only champion this peace for their own ends: so that they might be able to settle their planet without interruption. Regardless of the truth, the Trallyr of the Gardeners still hold a powerful position among the alliance members and were the ones to suggest the establishment of The Local Alliance as an independent power under alliance rules. Many Gardener politicians still see the Local Alliance as the child of their faction that they should have the right to influence, despite the Alliance's intent as a neutral faction.

    History

The gardeners of Jainonn started as a unified faction created upon the discovery of the imminent destruction of the Trallyr's original system. They succeeded in the herculean effort to craft ships large and advanced enough to carry not only their population but as much of their native biomass across space as they could. They eventually arrived at the planet Jainonn where they are located today. The generations spent aboard these ships molded their culture into one that relies on rules and focuses on the good of the society over the desires of the individual.   After reaching their destination, cultural tensions between those who still follow their culture's rules closely and those that wish to expand their horizons and choose their own path have only increased. It wasn't just the Starwanderers that pushed against the flow of their society, but many others who remain within the fold of the Gardeners today are slowly finding their priorities and beliefs changing in ways that cause their leadership great alarm.

    Motto
    "Through order we begin anew."

    Current Leader
    The Council of Three

    Dominant Language
    Trall

    Allied

Despite the formal alliance being initally founded by the Gardeners, the leadership of the Local Alliance can often find the lead Gardeners to be overbearing.

    Allied

The Trallyr and the Jalgar are known Allies.

    Uncertain Allies

The Simultists have offered generously to aid the Gardeners in terraforming their planet, but the offer is typically refused by the Trallyr due to pride. There is no bad blood, but the Trallyr dislike being asked repeatedly.

    Tense Relations

The Gardeners of Jainonn see the Starwanderers as traitors to Trallyr-kind. Those of Starwander kind would rather not interact with their forebears.
