Placairn
The Republic of Placairn is a nation formerly a province of the Commonwealth of Gailesburgh. It has very recently revolted in a violent uprising against the crown of Gailesburgh and established its own independent government. It has been recognized by the republic of Nova Thania as an independent state, though few other powers share that sentiment. The provisional government of Placairn is a democracy on paper, though reality doesn't live up such lofty ideals. If the war ever ends, perhaps this will change.
Culture
The people of Placairn have long been quite different from the rest of the folk in the Gailesburgh Commonwealth. This ranges from mere appearance, to religious beliefs and values. Placairnittes have a long tradition of revering nature gods, superstition, and ancestral spirits which the largely ecclesiastical religion of Gailesburgh would dismiss as pagan humbug. This focus on ancestral spirits naturally leads to a strong reverence of heritage and tradition. There is also a strong sense of group identity among those who believe they share a common ancestor, and the tracking of familial ties is done in an almost mystical manner. Demography and Population
Placairn was the 3rd most populous region of the Commonwealth before it split off, however that did include a large number of Gailesburgh nationals that have fled back into the commonwealth during the revolution. It's population has a Human majority, however there are also Sthrenari and Inkfolk abound.
Foreign Relations
Being a nascent state still at war for independence, the foreign relations of Placairn are very healthy and in large part nonexistent, as the independence war is a lot more of a pressing concern at the moment. However foreign relations are complicated by the war in that supporting Placairn or acknowledging it as a sovereign entity from Gailesburgh is a guaranteed to earn the Commonwealth's ire, which few are keen to accept. Sole among these are the Republic of Nova Thania, though their support is a simple official acknowledgement of sovereignty, and the Federation of Sovereign Kingdoms which seems to be motivated primarily by opposition to Gailesburgh. Despite this reason being of interest to Zemaran, the ideological rift is too great for anything but animosity to exist.
