Webster Northbrook Character in Skelleyville-verse | World Anvil

Webster Northbrook

A fetching boar-dog hybrid. Webster is just as much of a book-headed inquisitive soul as his mother is, which he is teased for fairly frequently by his father (but it's all done in good love, you see.) He's named for the Dictionary as a joke, which goes a long way to explanining the sort of relationship his parents had.   Webster was a bright-hearted young man, with a vast future ahead of him. When he married, there was joy-- but his wife died less than a week later, crushed in a freak accident; a drawn carriage's steeds panicked, and the overturned vehicle smashed his wife beneath it. Webster grew distant, desperate for one more day with the woman he loved.   Nobody knows what happened to Webster, really.   They know all that was found of him in the end, though:   the blood-scrawled name of his wife -- HENRIETTA -- and the reek of grease, the wretched stench of singed fur. Ash. Dragging-lines. Blood-- everywhere. More than the walls.   The pain over losing her son is what sent his mother to the grave eventually, but Webster, of course, never knew that.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Webster was rather portly, with a soft belly and two chins, but a winning smile. His tusks were sharp and polished, and his grooming was impeccable.

Facial Features

A strong brow and snout, with healthy flesh. Perky ears, and a scruffly little beard.

Personality Characteristics

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Webster was an intellectual, which is what saw him undone at the end. His savviness with the strange otherwordly entities that had been studied and documented led him to believe himself untouchable, but he was certainly not, and when he realized, it was far too late to keep himself from being seized.

Virtues & Personality perks

Despite his flaws, Webster was a loving, loyal, amicable man. He wasn't cruel -- he was outgoing, generous, and generally a good community presence.
