Tunavan

"You are telling me we are going to shoot through dark tunnels faster than any horse, stuck inside this giant tube, with no influence on where we going and if we can arrive safely? Only a mad person or a dwarf could have thought of this!"
"Yeah, but the seating is comfortable and they have some great mead on board."

The Tunavan - shorthand for Tunnel Caravan - is a dwarven transport system allowing speedy travel across, or rather below, the length of Maned's Crown within a few hours. It uses the already existing tunnel systems the dwarves had dug and expanded on over the past millennia and promises fast travel for several passengers at once and easy transport of many tons of goods between Bun Daresh and Hagna's Armory like never before.

This way of transportation has become revolutionary famous in Baradolia, after the inventor Ionas Jakobé was invited to ride with the Tunavan in 1672 AR. Since then, Baradolia tries to build a similar transport system with no significant success.

A Tunavan consists of three sections all within one cylindrical construction with two to three slightly expandable and bendable sections in between. all parts of the Tunavan are windowless, with the exception of the front, which has some glass fortified with several grids of metal beams. On the sides and on the bottom of the Tunavan are placed two rows of small but thick wheels. Those wheels fit very well into the carved tracks on the tunnel's walls and floor.

The section at the front is a cabin used by a Tunavan Conductor to stop or accelerate the train and react to obstacles and some specifically placed light signals on the tracks. There is no steering required, since the Turavan can only go along the set track carved into the tunnel walls and floor. Directly behind the conductor's cabin, a small bar is built in where a Tunavan Service Dwarf prepares beverages and meals for the passengers - if this is a Person's Transport Tunavan.

The second section consists either of ample cargo space or of rows of seating places. In the original, more luxurious version going between Bun Daresh and Hagna's Armory, the seats as big with plenty of leg space, comfortable fabric, and even a table.

The third section is occupied by the Tunavan Acceleration Worker in their seats with pedals for their legs. Using a combination of magic, leg power, and very clever mechanics, they provide the speed to the Turavans. With some clever applications on the tunnel walls, the Tunavan is additionally sped up but most of the energy comes from those dwarves.
