Races of Themorin

Dragonborn

Dragonborn are incredibly common in Themorin and are descendants of the Dragons that live there. After Humans and Halflings they are the most common race to find.   In imperial society, Dragonborn are seen as a noble and powerful race, almost superior to other humanoids. To have the blood of a dragon course through you is considered a blessing in The Empire. Dragonborn are most commonly found in the imperial military as officers or elite soldiers and many of them hold titles of nobility.   Dragonborn are most common in the Westrealm, which is considered to be the heart of The Empire. But Dragonborn can be found all over Themorin nowadays, especially in larger settlements and cities.

Humans

Humans are the most common humanoid race of Themorin and they can be found everywhere throughout The Empire.   Humans are found in all facets of society, from the poorest to the rich.

Halflings

Halflings are the second most common race in Themorin, right after the Humans. They originate from the Southrealm, where they used to live in small peaceful communities until Humans came from the north and brought the idea of monarchy along. The Halfling clans united under the new kingdom Sutherland, and spread into the rest of Themorin through trade and tourism, especially to the old Westerlund. With the rise of The Empire, they quickly established themselves as capable merchants with their natural knack for economics. Nowadays they can be found everywhere in The Empire, but mostly in the Southrealm and Westrealm.   In society, Halflings are most commonly farmers, merchants, or work in gastronomy. They run business like no other and some clans are among the wealthiest families of The Empire.

Aasimar and Tieflings

Both, Aasimar and Tieflings are extremely rare, but do exist in Themorin. Their birth is seen as an omen of something big, usually bad.   In ancient Themorian lore, Aasimar are seen as heralds and champions of the gods. From birth they are destined for greatness. However, since the rise of The Empire and the Imperial Inquisition, this view is seen as herecy agains Emperor as divine leader. Aasimar are hunted by the Inquisition and either made into champions of the Emperor, or disposed of before they can become a threat to the unified Empire. Because of that, most Aasimar hide their divine heritage as best they can and live simple, unfulfilled lives against the calling of their dreams and visions.   Tieflings on the other hand have always been seen as a sign of evil in the bloodline. It's believed that having a Tiefling child means the bloodline is cursed and because of that Tieflings are unwelcome outcasts. Those that aren't killed at birth, are abandoned or raised in secret. Even with the rise of The Empire that didn't change. Even the Imperial Inquisition treats Tieflings as demonic brood and will in most instances dispose of them on sight.

Shifters

Deep in the forests of the Westrealm live small communities of Shifters. They mostly keep to themselves and avoid The Empire altogether, prefering their simple life close to nature in the woods.   On rare occasion, a Shifter may become curious and set out to leave their tribe and travel through Themorin. They do stand out to the average imperial populace, but are usually treated like any other stranger. However, especially in rural areas, farmers are quick to blame them for missing lifestock that may actually be caused by wild wolves or other animals.   Shifters usually communicate in Bervalan, a language that is very primal and has no written script. Instead, they paint and carve to immortalize their stories.

Kobolds

Most Kobolds of Themorin are dragon worshipping menaces who serve a dragon and live in their lair, occasionally attacking smaller imperial settlements. Some Kobolds have accepted the Emperor as their dragon overlord and became civilised citizens of The Empire. They mostly live in their own communities secluded from other races, where they can worship the Emperor and work for him.   The Imperial Inquisition is making efforts to integrate more and more Kobold clans into The Empire by spreading the word of the Emperor. Kobolds are inventive and diligent servants of the Emperor and mostly used to work mines, build and maintain infrastructure and do all other kinds of menial tasks.   Many Kobolds also regard Dragonborn as some form of larger, more Dragon-like Kobolds and believe that any Kobold can become a Dragonborn if their faith in their Dragon overlord is strong enough. A hopeless superstition, but a useful one to The Empire. Because of this, Dragonborn are regarded as superior by most civilised Kobolds of Themorin.

Races of the Feylands

The Feylands are home to Elves, Dwarves and all kinds of fey creatures, which is why The Empire refers to this continent as the "Feylands".

Elves

Elves count among the most common race in the Feylands. There are generally 3 types of Elves inhabiting the Feylands: Wood Elves, High Elves, and Drow.   Generally, all Elves speak Feyspeak and some dialect of Elvish, with the Drow being an exception, as most of their clans speak Undercommon instead of Feyspeak.
Wood Elves
Wood Elves inhabit the forests of the Feylands and live in tribal communities. They're very close to nature and form Druidic Circles. Wood Elves generally keep to themselves rarely venture out of their forests. Some tribes are rather territorial and will drive away outsiders who trespass in their hunting grounds or homes, but most are peaceful and while still cautious, very curious whenever outsiders come along. As long as they treat nature with respect, that is.   Wood Elves communicate in many different regional Elvish dialects and generally don't really write things down. Instead, they carve and paint pictures to tell stories and pass their knowledge on directly through word of mouth. Their economy is based on trading and most communities don't have use for coins, except to repurpose them as accessories.
High Elves
The most numerous of the Elven species, the High Elves have long ago formed the kingdom Malinorna. Their culture is based on milennia of tradition, but also quite advanced due to their pursuit of higher knowledge. When a High Elf celebrates their 900th birthday, they enter their Matronal or Patronal phase. They are henceforth considered wise and experienced and therefore eligible for a seat among a special senate that holds special power within the kingdom. They advise the king and queen directly and usually deal with all kinds of official business and decisions in the name of the royal family.   Most High Elves speak Feyspeak and Elvish. Depending on their upbringing and origin, they speak different dialects but generally a rather eloquent sounding version of the language compared to their Wood Elf and Drow brethren.
Drow
The Drow are the most common race inhabiting the vast and complex cave systems deep beneath the Feylands. They generally don't go above ground and aren't very welcome there anyway because of an age old legend.
