A Delicious Duel
"Let me tell you about the piece of cake that became a serious musical conflict..."
As told by Thrannan Eralor
The Conflict
Prelude
It happened during my last year at the Minstrel's University. I was minding my own business, just about to enjoy a piece of cake. Then, I saw him. That man who had decided I was his personal nemesis from day one.
Ethvaar Ilnariver.
He wanted my cake. I didn't want him to take my cake. That's when he said the phrase that would seal our destinies.
"Let's duel. Astori against Astori. The winner gets the cake."
It's not like I could back off from a challenge like that. I do have some pride, after all.
The Engagement
We grabbed our trusted Astoris and glared at eachother for a few moments. No preparation time. Only yourself, your wit and your Astori skills.
The rules are simple. One of the competitors, usually the challenger, plays a tune. The other competitor must make a new tune, seamlessly merging it with the opponent's tune. This goes on, back and forth, until one competitor messes up or gets stuck. The other competitor, the one that's the last one standing, is the winner of whatever the prize is.
In this case, it was my piece of cake. As you can imagine, these were serious stakes.

Outcome
Now, I must admit that I did feel rather smug when I ate my cake in front of Ethvaar. The gathered crowd probably didn't make it any better for him.
I almost felt sorry for the loss of his pride.
Aftermath
Somehow, this did make my life at the University a bit easier. Ethvaar had always been a thorn in my side, and now he seemed to leave me alone.
