Conception happens when sperm penetrates an egg. At that point, it takes 300 days for the baby to be born. There are three trimesters to each pregnancy, each lasting approximately 100 days.
Trimester One:
The first trimester is when the baby shifter is growing all its body parts. During this time, the carrier's scent will change slightly due to the change in their hormones. This is usually the first indicator that they are pregnancy.
This is also when the carrier will want to spend the most time shifted, as they will feel especially safe as their animal rather than as a human. Their animal instincts will be at the forefront, especially if they feels that they are in danger or unsafe. They will feel the need to protect their child. This may play out in leaving their home for somewhere safer, even if their home seems like the safest place in the world. Their inner animal will always go where they feel the safest. Don't question them. They will lash out.
Trimester Two:
By now, the carrier is showing and the baby is growing into all their body parts. The baby is looking like a little human or a little shifter, depending on if their animal side or human side is to the forefront. The baby will be changing back and forth inside the carrier, so the carrier will change back and forth depending on which is easier on their body at the time or which works best for the carrier's needs.
This is also the time where the carrier's hormones are fluctuating the most. This means that their moods will swing wildly, so they might growl at you one minute and be amorous the next minute. The other thing to watch out for in this trimester is their need to be one with nature. The carrier is more likely to want to spend time outside where they can expend the extra energy that the baby is causing in their body. As the baby shifts in them, the magic and energy has to go somewhere and the only outlet is through the carrier's body. This will make the carrier restless and need to move. The carrier will need to use up all that extra energy by taking runs outside or with exercise.
Trimester Three:
It's too dangerous for the carrier to shift back and forth, so they will decide which form they will give birth in and stay in that form. The baby is growing and getting bigger. The baby will also choose which a single form and stay there until birth.
This is also the time when the carrier will choose their den where they will give birth. If they are in their animal form, this might be an actual den rather than a home. It will be up to their partner or family to provide food and comfort items for their den. If they are in their human form, they will be decorating their home and getting it ready for the baby. Either way, they will be hostile to strangers and even some friends being close to the den at this time and for some time after the birth of the child.
Species Specific Differences:
Each species will have some differences with their pregnancies, though not enough to make them unique. The Jeris usually all are born human as they are bears and even as babies are on the large size, while the Berans are usually born as animals as they are rats which are smaller animals, so would cause less problems being born in their animal form.
Rosu Lupian - Red Wolf Shifters -
Bakians - Lion Shifters -
Jeris - Bear Shifters- Jeris are rarely born in bear form. When it happens, it's because the carrier had the child as a bear, so there is room for the child in its shifted form. The Jeris believe that a child born in their shifted form will be an especially powerful bear.
Berans - Rat Shifters - Berans have a higher percentage of children born in their shifted form. This is because they are one of the smaller shifted species, so their shifted form won't hurt the carrier during childbirth.
Adarrans - Rhino Shifters -
Giaguarons - Jaguar Shifters -
Grivans - Grey Wolf Shifters -
Karawakans - Coyote Shifters -
Kinohians - Cougar Shifters -
Makavans - Jackal Shifters -
Nabarans - Leopard Shifter -
Oakawans - Ocelot Shifters -
Serians - Plains Wolf Shifters -
Taureirans - Tiger Shifters -
Tilkins - Fox Shifters -
Tumbilians - Gorilla Shifters -
Wekans - Giraffe Shifters -
Zurians - White Wolf Shifters -
Mixed Shifter Species:
Mixed shifter species have the possibilities of both parents. Sometimes they get more from one parent, sometimes they get something from both parents. The most likely trait they will get is the ability to shift into both parents' forms. This can complicate a pregnancy if the shifted form of the child stabilizes into the non-carrier's form and it isn't compatible with the carrier's body.
Blaiddarth - Wolf-Bear Shifters - They take after bear shifters as they are rarely born in shifter form. They tend to have a higher chance of being
Anitz Shifters.
