There is next to no infrastructure or law within the Barrens, so gangs rule the area.
The partial meltdown of the Trojan-Satsop nuclear plant resulted in the modern area known as "The Glow", which is a favoured site for those dealing with toxic magic and the cause of the large number of mutants in the population.
