Ghost Moss

Ghost Moss, known in its native region as the "idoani" (ghost-flower), is a species native to the equatorial area of Noctu, especially in the Rhubei Mountains. Due to the attractive flowers it produces, it has been exported to the wider galaxy and has been classified as an invasive species on several planets.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Despite the name, ghost moss is not actually moss, but rather a parasitic flowering plant with long, slim stems and leaves. The stems and leaves are both incredibly pale, and slightly translucent.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Despite its frail appearance, ghost moss is actually a carnivorous plant, eating mostly insects. Some of the "leaves" on the plant are not leaves at all, but rather small, sealable openings. This "mouths" produce a sweet scent to lure in prey, and are coated in a sticky resin to prevent prey from escaping once they have landed.

Biological Cycle

In the warmer, wetter seasons of the area, ghost mosses produce bioluminescent flowers about 6 inches in diameter. These flowers have five petals and are blue, purple, or (rarely) red.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Traditionally, these flowers are used as decoration in Rubum wedding ceremonies, and proposing with a red flower (the rarest color) is seen as a sign of extreme devotion and promise.
