Dwarf

A strong and defiant race, Dwarves were never conquered by The Fathomless Empire, due to the location of their fortress city of Markōmazz-Tor and its stout defenses. They largely eschewed the surface world except for necessity during the zenith of the Empire, and thus have more of a presence in the Underdark than many of Landkind realize.
They also provide a homeland and protection for the Gnomes, who in turn provide them with magic items. Their union has been a profitable and valuable one for generations, and in many ways their cultures complement each other.
