An Order of Execution

Derane,   I know that you don’t agree with me in this matter, but I have made my decision and I beg your consideration before committing to your own. Rowan was once a true friend to us both, so you must know how difficult it was for me to view things objectively: he has become a liability, plain and simple. It was different, when we were younger men, bolder, brighter, and more willing to do that which was necessary to ensure our collective success. Magnolia’s shop has its benefits, to be sure, but it has fallen into obscurity as traffic across the Pike has increased and other, newer shops have gained prominence along the main road.   They simply are no longer continuing to serve us, brother, but they know far too much about our operation.   It is devastating to think of them betraying us; but Rowan is one of the few people who remembers what things were like before. And he will not take kindly to a severance of our contracts and long-term agreements. Alas, this friendship is no longer a sufficient cause to lose as much as we are by supporting him and his family.   But fear not - his eldest daughter shows much of the same promise that Rowan himself did, in the old days. She longs for adventure, to see the world. She is a bright and capable young woman, who has taken me up on my offer to bring her aboard the Orcadia when it departs from the Pike next week.   The Orcadia and her crew are scheduled to be gone for a minimum of six months, but we may be able to extend its itinerary by tapping into some diplomatic ventures. By the time that she returns, all of this unpleasantness will be behind us - but excellent motivation for her.   After all, nothing breeds conviction like losing one’s family.   Alas, I must now commit to this plan, and beg your continued support in our venture. The Orcadia will depart one week from tomorrow. Rowan, Magnolia, and the children must be removed within the fortnight that follows. Tragic fires happen all the time in Easthallow.   If you agree to proceed, send word with Shelley prior to tomorrow’s council.   Deverell Lynk
