Tyrness Academy
Tyrness Academy is the most renowned school for magi in all Selwyn. There are hundreds of students, former students, and graduates throughout the kingdom, though only a master mage can be considered an academy graduate.
Getting into Tyrness Academy is not easy. There is a minimum age limit - thirty for elves - and the slots for each year's class are limited to twelve. The tuition fees are high if not sponsored by a graduate, so nobles are often found amongst the students.
The Academy is enormous. Dozens of copses of trees and fields cover the grounds. The central building is a cross-shaped hall standing thirty feet tall and with a tower that rises over eighty feet into the air. Its smooth sides are a dull white and only broken by the wide arches of windows. Several outbuildings stand near the hall.
In the cardinal directions are four large towers, each fifty feet tall and widely built, their surfaces the same white as the central hall. These are elemental towers, along with being temples to four faces of Nature's Court, the towers are where higher ranking classes of students who specialize in one of the four elemental spheres of magic carry out their training. Practitioners of water train in the north tower, which is dedicated to the Princess, while adepts of fire train in the southern tower, dedicated to the Dowager. Earth is the eastern tower, linked to the Guardian, and the western tower is dedicated to air magic and the Shifter. All the others are taught in the main building, which also contains the temple to the Queen.
Tyrness Academy is responsible for the defense of Tyrness in the case of a mana storm. It has a massive spell set up that can shield the city from raining fire, ice, or the like. It takes an enormous amount of mana, which is kept stored and idle until needed.
The school makes ward keystones for the military and nobility across the country.
